Studies is the app to help you master your studies — whatever they may be — on macOS and iOS.

Some things in life just have to be memorized. Facts, formulas, words, pictures, dates, procedures, even names and faces. Everything you do includes information that needs to reside in your head. Studies can help with that.

Studies is a study card app for the serious student. It's a tool to expand your knowledge, and it doesn't matter what it is you want to learn — medicine, law, language, history, piloting, fine art, music, martial arts — from simple day-to-day tidbits, to knowledge of life changing importance. Studies is an app to help you achieve your learning goals.

There are Studies apps for Mac, iPhone, and iPad, and they sync up beautifully via iCloud. Start studying in class with Studies for Mac, continue on the bus ride home with Studies for iPhone, and finish off on the sofa with Studies for iPad.

(Note: Studies was formerly called Mental Case.)

This helped me pass a very important exam. ( I actually crammed) But, with the help of this app, was able to pull through! Thanks!

Great to hear you pulled through, and that Studies helped. Thanks for sharing.

Good update, with room for growth

Studies is a welcome update to Metal Faculty’s previous flashcard app Mental Case. The new app’s look and features are streamlined, easy to use, and helpful for any student who needs a digital flashcard app for learning and school work. Of note, Studies new synch engine makes it easier than ever to select and synch notes between the Mac desktop application and the iPhone and iPad apps. Orgainizing and formating information is easier and more robust than before, and the study sessions have been updated with Study Wrong options to narrow down and identify information that deserves further review.

If I had a request for the developers is for a Zoom-In or enlarge option when viewing cards/stacks in Spread or Stack view. As it stands, the cards are a bit too small for my liking, and I would like an option to make the cards bigger in either view. The current workaround is to view the cards in List mode, but the other two views are easiter when organizing and moving cards around.

Otherwise, I’m pleased with Studies, and I look forward to new, improved features for the app.

Developer Response

Thank your for the positive review. We have heard the request for larger notes in the browser a few times, and we are considering that feature. Please note that you can always QuickLook the notes, from anywhere in the app. Just select the note, and hit the spacebar. This shows the content in a separate window, allowing a closer look. Works in the browser and study sessions.

Not working properly and horrible support

I “upgraded” from the last version of Mental Case and parts of the new Studies does not seem to be working. I keep getting notes that are “Due for Study” even thought I have both, studied all of them, and I have the “do not schedule” selected for theses particular cards. The fact that the program doesn’t work quite like it should could be overlooked except I contacted their support twice via email through the app and have not heard anything in FIVE (5) days. Even a canned email respose saying they would be in touch would have helped. I should not have shelled out ANOTHER $20 for this app. Mental Case was working just fine.

Update: I still have not gotten an email respose from Mental Case. Customer support seems to be non-existant. Also, editing notes for correct layout is VERY limited. I can’t figure out how to edit a flashcard in portrait mode. All edits are done in vertical mode and I also can’t figure out how to have a card go from bullets or numbered back to non-bullets or non-numbers.

I think something must have gone wrong with our support system here, because we strive to answer everyone within 24 hours. If these issues are still a problem, please contact us at
