Description

Suggester is a tool to assist in the creation of songs and chord progressions. This app will help you find chords that work together. It is efficient and fun; use it to build musical phrases that will carry emotion through tension and release.

Simply touch a chord to hear how it sound like. Press the play button to hear the chord progression sequentially and adjust the playback speed.

You can work either forward or backward:
FORWARD - Pick a scale, then build your song from the chords that the app suggests. That's the quickest way to assemble chords that are compatible.
BACKWARD - From the catalog, pick a set of chords that you like. The app will tell you what scales it matches with. After you have selected the scale you want to use, the app can tell you what chords will fit in with the ones you entered before. That is extremely useful in jam sessions!

To spice things up, you can borrow chords from parallel scales.

You can also explore classic chord progressions.

Use Drag and Drop to reorder chords. Hold your finger on an item for a second to start the drag operation. On iPad, you can also drag chords directly from the suggestions to anywhere in your progression.

Swipe a chord from right to left to delete it.

When you're satisfied, save your experimentations for later reference. Export them by email using either a MIDI file or plain text. You can also open the MIDI file in another app.

Every sound generated with the app is also sent to the MIDI output, configurable in the Options. You can route these notes to another app on your device, an external MIDI port, or remotely to another computer by setting up a MIDI Network Session.

You can trigger chords through the MIDI input.

Sync up your tempo with other apps with the help of Ableton Link.

Best chord assist on iOS.

MusixMonkey

I’ve tried them all. This is the best. Needs a latching option and a way to have chords hold for longer than a whole note in song mode... or better yet, a clock divider after Link in. Then you could set it to /4 or something for slower chord changes when driving an arp. Right now you have to bind song chords to midi notes and sequence the progression outside of app. But still, this is a very powerful tool.

The best bonus feature? You can use it in that floating side window thing on an iPad!

Almost perfect

cmkadmin

5 stars for functionality. The only chord progression application that uses Roman numeral notation 100% correctly and doesn’t limit you to diatonic chords, plus lets you enter inversions, altered bass notes, the whole ball of wax. Perfect export to FL Studio Mobile, and midi.

Interface needs a couple things. Ability to collapse sections, and start play from middle of progression. Also, some longer notes would be better if they would sustain to the end. But those are minor quibbles. Best chord progression app out there.

Only one request

Jdhaagenson

I love this app, it helps me outline chords before I write music. I especially like that you can export as midi. And that you can change the note length to create rhythms is very helpful too so if I have a rhythm in my head I don’t forget it. Also I love that you can separate into sections and loop each section or the whole thing! My only request would be to add 6ths to the possible chords because if I’m thinking of using a 6th I can’t hear it as part of the progression! Other than that this is my go to app every time I’m writing a song.
