Summoner Wars for iOS is a digital card game with all the tactical elements of a board game. Summoner Wars for iOS allows players to control the Phoenix Elves faction and battle against AI opponents or go online to play against others. Nine additional factions such as the Tundra Orcs, Guild Dwarves and Cave Goblins are available through the game’s in-app store. For those who wish to take the game to the next level, a deck-editor allows players to select the cards in their factions and reinforcements to build a custom deck to play with, within the confines of the rules. Changing cards can affect game play, making the game infinitely customizable.
A Playdek online account is required to play online.
Summoner Wars is a popular fantasy card game where players take on the role of a Summoner. Players cast spells and summon warriors to a battlefield and tactically maneuver them in an effort to defeat their opponent’s summoner. Summoner Wars offers many faction decks for players to choose from, like the precise Phoenix Elves, the hordes of Cave Goblins, or the righteous Vanguards. Each faction offers unique play and requires players to adapt to the special strategies available to that faction. Summoner Wars the card game was released in 2009 and has received critical acclaim from a variety of board game review sites.

Combat fantasy strategy board game and cards
Worked best on iPad Air and iPad mini. Works good on iPhone 5 but due to limited screen space on the phones the UI can become very cluttered. If you like card battlers like Magic the gathering mixed with a grid board for strategically moving your units against opposing players this is it. It's theme is fantasy there are various decks such as thieves, mind control mages, ogre decks etc. There are spells and enchantments and add a welcoming layer of challenge. There's PVP online and offline. Solo players will love the PVE but 2 of the in app purchased add on decks do not have AI built for them (benders and thieves). When solo playing the enemies AI may take a minute to respond on his turn. Not game breaking but could become frustrating. Also to unlock all decks it will cost you about $8 is it worth it yes but it's not for everyone give it a shot if you like it unlock it.
Great game but...
I love the digital game as well as the board game. It reminds me of MTG but I like it more.
HOWEVER, the app implementation, while good, could use some crucial tweaks. There needs to be an undo button that will go back one move (as long as it's not redoing an attack or something where you are undoing after knowing the result). For example, occasionally I'll summon a wall or a unit to the wrong space and I can't undo it like I could in the physical board game. Similarly, I once ended the attack phase with an extra attack point still remaining and then realized I had another unit I forgot to attack with using their special ability and it I couldn't go back and do it. Very frustrating when it messes up your strategy on such a strategic game. :-/
Easy, fun, addictive
I learned how to play summoner wars 'in person' but I think that the iOS version is just as good, if not a tad better. With built in reminders when units can/can't do something you don't make silly mistakes. Plenty of cards and customization, although I really hope to see more units in the near future. Love the unique planning boards for each faction!
