Super Crate Box

By Vlambeer

This app is only available on the App Store for iOS devices.

Vlambeer's smash hit SUPER CRATE BOX brings back the glory of the golden arcade age when all that really mattered was getting on that high score list! Grab your baseball cap and loosen your pants, it's time to fight endless hordes of enemies and collect every weapon crate you can. Prepare for an arcade delight with tight controls, refreshing game mechanics, cracking retro art and a terribly hip chiptune soundtrack.

- "Its high-octane play married with its no-frills, arcade game design keeps me collecting crates and blasting enemies into delightful little pieces of monster." - TouchArcade (5/5)

"Supremely straightforward, criminally addictive, and easily the best retro action title I’ve ever played on iOS." - AppAdvice

"This is one of those triumphs of minimalist design and limited complexity that gets its hooks in you early and never lets go." - Ars Technica

"The effulgent nature of Super Crate Box is reflective of the game's alluring gameplay and artwork that both will draw any gamer in without fail. " - iPhone Alley (5/5)

"But if you're real gamer – and, what's more, a gentleman – then Super Crate Box is without question the game for you." - PocketGamer (Silver Award)

"This belongs up there with Drop7, Solipskier and SpellTower as an example of the very best that the App Store offers." - EuroGamer (9/10)

Super Crate Box won numerous awards, including prizes by IGN, EDGE, and a nomination for 'Excellence in Design' by the Independent Games Festival. So far, over 85 million crates have been collected worldwide.

Collect crates where-ever you go, whenever you want. Now, Super Crate Box is finally available on the go!

What's New in Version 1.1.6

We haven't had the time to properly support Super Crate Box with iPhone 5 support yet. Sorry for the wait and thank you so much for your patience. As soon as we're done with all the work on our next releases, hopefully by February, we'll circle back here and make sure it's fixed. Thanks again!

- Minor bug fixes
- Joypad Console support
- There are still 20+ super-rare golden crates before the next update hits, but we're almost there after a long, long wait: 1.2 will include a bunch of new characters and challenges!

SCB goes in my hall of fame

I have been playing this game for years now and still love it. It's hard as balls which makes it all the more satisfying when you actually accomplish something. The controls are super tight. When you die, it's your fault, which is perfect. It's an honest platformer. You can only blame yourself.

A refresh for bigger screens would be a welcome update that might also introduce an entirely new audience to the game.

THANK YOU VLAMBEER!! You have somehow turned rage into happiness and I am forever grateful.

Waste of money

For the very few that they allow to view this review the game is useless dribble. Ridiculously hard. Pretty much impossible to get by 2nd level due to bad controls and crazy hard spawns combined with useless random drops of crates. You rush to get what is a crapshoot weapon usually worse than what you hold. Advancement of weapons based on total crates usually gives you a weapon you don't even want and can't control when you stinkin even get it! Lazy thoughtless programmers and a pointless non-addictive, frustrating, inane game that's not even worth the fun of wasted time.

Great game, needs a touch-up.

Good, fast, challenging, retro arcade gameplay.

But it needs iPhone 5 support. It's definitely playable, it's just that the display isn't as wide as the screen and the buttons are too harsh. If you just barely miss one (and I do mean barely; like, a millimeter or two), then too bad, no button press. For a hardcore gamer who's used to tactile controllers and keyboards, unforgiving on-screen buttons are agony.

Also, there's a service called "Open Feint" that the game prompts you to enable on first launch. It's supposed to be a leaderboard, but it doesn't work at all and actually seems to prevent Game Center from working. I recommend skipping it when it first appears and not opening it after (i.e., don't tap the green clock button on the main menu). After doing this, my Game Center leaderboards and achievements worked fine.
