“An excellent overview of surfboards and surfboard design.”
Al Merrick – Channel Islands Surfboards
Shaun started surfing way back in 1965 and over the years has taught hundreds of people how to surf. He has also worked with over 40 of the world’s greatest surfboard shapers so he has a broad knowledge of surfboard design, which he outlines in clear, simple terminology.

When I am out in the line up I often see people struggling on unsuitable equipment, boards that might be great for an expert surfer but are woefully inadequate for a beginning or intermediate surfer – teeny submarine-like boards that might be perfect for the best surfer in the world but are totally unsuitable for anyone that is not highly skilled and experienced. When a person starts out on the surfing journey, the trip can be made infinitely easier if one starts out on the right equipment. This little application is designed to do just that – help you find and understand which board will be best for you. Many people ride equipment too advanced for their ability level and end up becoming frustrated while painfully struggling through the learning process. It is important to pick a board that will maximize the fun factor from the outset and make learning and improving as painless as possible.
You want a board that will help you catch waves quickly, that is easy to maneuver and will help you maximize your potential by making the experience as enjoyable as possible. When you are starting out you definitely don’t need a Formula 1 racing machine. Choosing a board is not about making a fashion statement or impressing anyone in the store or on the beach or riding what the best surfer in the world rides – it is about getting the best board that is right for you, right now.
I hope this application will help you along on your surfing journey. Send me an e-mail to tell me how you are progressing: firstname.lastname@example.org
Great tool for buying surfboards
This is a handy app to have when you don't know what board to invest in, as well as eliminates feeling insecurity when visiting a surf shop and possibly feeling like a kook. (if you're a beginner that is). But it's also great for locating shapers as well as learning a little bit about the types of surfboards people ride.
Great surfing reference guide
This is the first surf related reference guide in the app store that everyone who has an iphone or itouch should have. It covers all the small details that the surf shops don't answer unless you ask a lot of questions. When I have some extra time I know I'll refer back to this app. Good going!
Get this app before you buy a board
For just $1.99 you get a wealth of information that will really help you make an educated and informed decision when it comes to buying a board. It is easy to navigate and well laid out. There's nothing else like it in the App Store.
