Description

Surge allows you to monitor the Uber surge at your current location or a fixed location.

You will be able to receive notifications when a surge starts, increases/decreases, and ends. Surge supports fine grained notification settings. You can specify the Surge minimum to be notified and what type of notifications to receive.

Surge also supports a Today Widget, showing you the surge value at your current location.

Be sure to follow our Twitter and Facebook feed for updates.

An Uber account is required in order to authenticate with the Uber API. You don't need to use a driver account, you can use a rider account.

Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Needs improvement

DKinDallas

There are so many areas that this app needs improvement. But the developers seem to have lost interest since Uber restricted the number of surge alerts to just the active one (without changing their monthly fee I’d add). But there are many areas in which they could develop aside from that. So here are some suggestions:

The notification button should be located on the front screen – not in settings. The user should be able to determine the volume of the notifications, with a setting for time of day so that they can determine when notifications will automatically be switched on or off (I’d like mine to switch on at 3:30am!) Also being able to determine the alert sound itself would be nice.

The data analytics in this app leave a lot to be desired. Instead of only being able to export into a spreadsheet – which is a nice feature – wouldn’t it be better to be able to see it visual representation of surge times at a particular location right from the app?

Clearly the developers are not actually Uber drivers or they would be putting a lot more effort into this product. I resent having to pay a monthly fee for a product that is clearly not being actively developed.

Expensive

Before they lost the right to display surge everywhere I was using this to make googobs of bank. Now it's ok for a free app, but do not spend on it.
Update: this app is currently running ok with multiple updates running at the same time, but it doesn't do a great job of notifying you. I like the fact that they lowered the prices, and that the navigate to allows you to use waze and gmaps over the crapple map default. 1 allow users to change notification sounds & volume. 2 allow users to see surge statistics in a pie chart. 3 allow users to set timers that go active on their own.

No longer works

LEGnz

This app used to work brilliantly 2 years ago; however, that is no longer the case. New Years Eve 2017 surge in my city was lit up like a Christmas tree, but the app showed “no surge” anywhere in town (I even paid for premium service). And even on New Years Day 2018 where only the airport was surging ... app didn’t show any surge. *glad I didn’t pay for more than 1 month of premium. **I don’t chase surge, but this app was handy when it worked.
