Truly a hidden gem

Very polished, clever platformer with flavor (I like the voiceovers and character names, as well as the appearance of the enemies in particular). I opted to use an MFi controller, so I can attest that it is very well implemented and makes the game a delight to play. I am also playing on an iPad Pro, so I can attest to the fact that the game looks and sounds good on a larger screen.

I can't recall how I came across it, but am glad I did. It's a steal at a dollar with no ads or IAPs. Blessings to the developer for a delightful little adventure.

A unique & quirky pixel platformer.

There are quite a few pixel/8-bit platformers in the App Store. And to be honest, they all feel very much alike. Sword of Xolan, on the other hand, sets itself apart from the pack, right from the get-go. This game has a flavor all it's own and it's a really refreshing change of pace. It may not look or feel as refined as some of the other retro platformers out there but that's part of the charm.

The graphics do their job and the enemies are nice and varied. The music is upbeat and fitting and Xolan even talks to you! The catch phrases were an amusing surprise that adds even more quickly charm. The only gripe I have with this game is that the controls could be tightened up a bit. The lack of a "pressure sensitive" jump gets frustrating fast. But, on a positive note, the ability to drop through floors by down-swiping is SUCH a great addition. (Most platformers make you hold the jump button to drop down a level, which I have always hated.) The option to upgrade Xolan through "Game Cards" is also a nice and rewarding feature.

All-in-all, Sword of Xolan is a fun, entertaining and quickly little retro gem. Well worth the 99 cent admission fee.

Solid platformer w/ great controls

The Real Godly

This is a fast paced platform game with a simple concept.

My only request, would be a little more depth to the game; although, I still gave five stars because I don't think they are going for depth. It's a simple repeated concept for each stage throughout the game: find 3 caged prisoners and a chest, rinse and repeat. That said, I found myself addicted and ready for the next stage, knowing I'm about to do the exact same thing!

If this game had just a few more RPG elements it would (IMO) be perfect. The only thing it currently has is a random card system which gives you shallow boosts. I'd like to see a character building system, additional weapons and adjustable difficulty (a little too easy). I'm not talking go Baldur's Gate with it, just a little something to give some depth to an already great game that is a little shallow.
