Customer Reviews
Love it.
I've been using Swype since it became available for iOS and love It. It is the only keyboard I use. It is not perfect by any means. My main complaints is that sometimes when I try to swipe very commonly used words the options I get are so outlandish I wonder how it came up with that. I'm beginning to realise that even that problem is a result of the it's strength. Here's what I mean. The app is so good at interpreting my swypes that after using it for a while I've gotten lazy. I don't have to be exact when trying to spell a word as long as I'm close enough it picks the right word or includes it in the options so I've gotten sloppy with my swiping and hence I sometimes get "sms" instead of "and". If I'm going too fast then I miss it and have to come back and fix it. That also means I'll have to be intentional about deleting unwanted words from my dictionary So they don't keep showing up. So in spite of the few quirks it still beats typing any day and I am very satisfied with this app.
New version saves inappropriate things
Ever since the new and "improved" version came out, a certain adult site which I typed into google only once keeps coming up as the first suggestion every time I want to write a text message or type in a website name into a browser. This is not a word I saved and it doesn't appear in my dictionary. When I typed it into google I did it as two words, as X, space, something else. This never used to happen in the older version where a two word phrase comes up as a suggestion. Let alone one you don't use frequently. I did everything I could to get rid of it. I typed in several other words beginning with an X like 50 times (X man, X men...) hoping that the app would start suggesting these, but to no avail. I tried reinstalling and I typed in that website again, and I was faced with the same issue. I don't want to have to be careful with what I type at all times!
Although I've been using swype since I remember, and I only bought an iPhone when I found out I could have swype on it, I am finally forced to delete.
Didn't work too well
When I had autocorrect turned on, over half the time what I typed was auto "corrected" to something completely different. When I turned it off, the app didn't seem able to recognize what I was typing at all. I typed 'Swype' with autocorrect on, it got changed to 'sweeping'. With autocorrect off, it got changed to 'eyelet'. Only extremely simple words like 'no' and 'bad' seemed to work at all. Even though it was 99 cents, I still wish I could get a refund--then again, maybe my money will help fund the developers so they can make their app capable of typing its own name.
In the no-so-bad category, the instructions on how to get the keyboard working are a little unclear. I was able to add it to my phone's list of keyboards as per the instructions, but I had to go to Google to find out that I had to long-press the globe button on the regular keyboard in order to actually enable Swype.
Swype does have a very nice look to it, and I think it has potential, but I personally wouldn't use it again.
