I just came running back after trying others
ETA May13, 2017: i'm using speech to text right now because my app spends more time crashing I'm working. This back is soon as they fix it! It won't even let me look to the regular keyboard I have to shut my phone off completely!
Here's the review I just wrote on one I tried: I had been using Swype for several years. Since my first iPhone after leaving the droid platform.
Little did I know. I reswiped the word more than three times and it wasn't even an option in the suggestion list.
That happened on every word of my first sentence!
I tried a little longer to let it "learn me" but I quickly dropped it and went running back to Swype!
When you back space to delete the wrong word in Swype, it removes the entire word it just chose. In this app, it chose a whole word (just the wrong one) but you have to delete each letter! Ugh!
The predictions were terrible and totally non intuitive.
Maybe there are good features, but if it can get the basics right, I'll never know about bonus features.
Run to Swype!
Plus, I love how I can get emoticons to show when I Swype key words. Like smile for a 😃!
I gave it four stars because I get frustrated when I check that it chose the right word, but after I hit send/post/etc, I see it changed a word.
However I love the smart predictions, lots of shortcuts, full word edits, and that they continue to make improvements.
I'll never leave again!
I recommend it
I love it ... what a time saver! I'm completely spoiled by the swype keyboard function. I was texting with a friend who couldn't spell any better than a 1st grader, then told him to download it, now he types fast and near perfectly. Finally I'm focusing on his content rather than his flaws. I'm currently downloading it to my kids' phones as per their requests. The reviews have brought my attention to a glitch I've been experiencing which is: my keyboard sometimes will not open. I just close out and sleep via power button then usually in 3 seconds it will open back up. Swype bug? Maybe. Not a big deal to me. Swype increases my phone fondness two fold... seriously. It's like my phone has ESP. It works everywhere like in what's app , imo, and microsoft word. When it's turned off I feel like my phone is broken or naked... I can't live without it ;)
A few suggestions for a GREAT app
I love Swype. After an update, it temporarily wouldn't work on Safari. It worked for everything else, but not Safari.
So I tried a few other keyboards that have word-drawing capabilities. SwiftKey ticked me off. TouchPal and Google's Gboard were pretty good, but they each had their problems. TouchPal has quick number input and awesome themes, but whenever I typed the word "a," it didn't recognize it as a word and put all three words (the a and the words surrounding it) together. It's really picky about where the cursor is, too.
Gboard has cool features in regards with using Google within an app, but I don't realistically need or want that. It also capitalizes everything if I move the cursor, and it didn't have quick number input.
But Swype is great. It has multiple rows of auto correct and, as I just learned, a form of quick number input by holding the top row keys. Autocorrect works better and the system works more intuitively for what you're (or at least I'm) actually typing.
What I hope for is to have the upside down question marks and exclamation points as quick inputs by holding down the regular punctuation marks on the main keyboard screen. It takes too long to get to those characters, considering other foreign language characters are easily accessible by pressing and hiding a button.
Please, Swype, add the upside down characters.
