Sometimes the third person perspective made the game frustratingly slow (tap the direction you want her to go. She walks all the way to that point on the screen and stops. Then you have to tap again to get her to continue moving, then she stops and you tap again.)
A map would have been very helpful as the buildings were very similair to one another.
HOWEVER, the story is more interesting than with most games and the puzzles were not the same old, same old. You looks for objects that let you move farther in the game (keys, papers etc.). You don't need to look for irrelevant objects or make all the buttons on a board turn on at the same time. Refreshing.
A bit of a let down
I'd previously played Syberia on PC many years ago, and when I found out there were porting it, I was thrilled - even if it was going to be divided into parts.
But the cost per part ratio and the fact that there are obviously puzzles and cutscenes missing? Whoa nelly. I will find an emulator to play my old disc copies, thank you very much.
That being said, this was one of my favorite point and click adventure games when I was younger, right up there with Monkey Island. The worlds are beautiful, the story is solid, and the mission puzzles take some thinking to solve. If you don't have another means to play this game and don't mind the cost or the wait for the subsequent parts, go for it.
If you're a previous fan, or would rather the play the game as one long story, find it elsewhere.
Beautiful and imaginative world. This alone makes the game worth playing. It has incredibly strong characters, and fun puzzles, you get a great gaming experience. It's fairly long and you need to think about how to approach some of the more intriguing puzzles. Some puzzles require finding pieces to make a device work while others require a character to interact with to get the job done. My only complaint would be that there is some excessive backtracking. Overall this is a really enjoyable game. I would highly recommend that you at least try the demo.
