Syfy Sync allows you to go inside your favorite Syfy shows in a whole new way. The Syfy Sync app listens to the episode you are watching and delivers contextual photos, videos, behind the scenes trivia, games and more to your iPad or iPhone. It actually responds to WHAT you are watching, giving you a whole new level of interaction with your favorite Syfy shows.
Syfy Sync is currently available for a number of Syfy shows, including The Expanse, 12 Monkeys, Face Off, Defiance, Sharknado, Sharknado 2 and Sharkando 3.
The best part? You can use Syfy Sync anytime; it works with live and repeat viewings, DVR marathons, or episodes watched online or On Demand.
There's more! You can use Syfy Sync to link your Twitter and Facebook accounts to connect with other fans. You can even interact with the show's stars during the live broadcast.
*Plus: Syfy & Philips Hue Bring You A Whole New Sync!
For those with Philips Hue personal wireless lighting, this version of Syfy Sync delivers a completely unique experience. Utilizing hue lights, Sync can control the environment of your room to match the action on screen, giving you a whole new level of interactivity. Use it now with Sharknado 1, 2 and 3! Also, the entire first seasons of 12 Monkeys and The Expanse. You can watch the entire season with unique light tracks for each episode!
Be sure to use Syfy Sync with 12 Monkeys Season 2, premiering April 18 at 9/8c on Syfy for additional Philips Hue light tracks and content!
Note: Full episodes are not available in this app.
What's New in Version 5.1.2
- Updated to work with upcoming firmware updates to the Philips Hue bridge
- Sync your Hue lights with 12 Monkeys! Season 2 premieres April 18 at 9/8c on Syfy
Innovative and functional
This app has found a really clever way to create interaction between lighting and the show you are watching. It's not perfect. There's plenty of room for improvement. But I applaud the innovation. You have to hit the sync button on your Hue hub to connect the app, which is not immediately obvious. The interface is kind of clunky and spammy and has to open to work. But those shortcomings can be overlooked. Just plug your phone it and ignore it, sit back and watch the show. The lights do truly blend in and add a new depth. Don't let all the haters detract. This a fun addition, especially for the nerdy, connected viewers that love SyFy content.
Is Syfy sync extinct?
Even though there was only a few shows that worked with it, and I hoped it would catch on and they would do all of their shows this way, and especially use the Philips hue lights with all of them, they have not updated in a year and season 2 of the expanse is not on it yet. This begs the question, has syfy sync died and went to interactive programming heaven? Please someone tell me what's going on, there is no mention of it on the internet.
Hue light sync absolutely useless
For hue light sync to keep working you have to keep the app open meaning that for the entire duration of the show you're watching you can't use your phone at all, that's makes the entire feature useless, why not let it run in the background?
