Slow slow slow! ,

Very Very Slow…has not finish after 24 hours

I was hoping this would help to keep folders in sync with my WD NAS drive. I think its capable of doing this but it has yet to actually complete a 54GB backup of my iTunes folder after 24 hours. Everytime I stop the sync, it has to start all over. When I move files manually between my MacBook and NAS its relitivly fast (268GB in 3 hours). SyncBuddy is so slow its not usable. Its transfer rate is at best 1 Mb per second…this is assuming its actually transfering anything. Most of the time it seems to just sit idle and do nothing.

I would avoid purchasing this product if I were you.

Recommended but can be slow for larger files

I like this program and plan to continue using it. However it is inefficient in that if a file folder’s name is changed and then sync’ed then every nested file inside it is copied again to the destination disk and the original copies inside the destination folder are deleted. This can make for a slow and disk taxing process. For practical purposes this means that it is much more efficient if you only need to make a file name change to do it manually rather than let Syncbuddy do it. It’s a good and useful program and I would’nt stay away from it: for large files just plan your time to accommodate the time needed. A minor point: the bar graph showing percent completion of the synching may indicate a low percent completed and then suddenly jump to 100%. Nice to see that the process has suddenly completed but linearity would be better!

Not quite

Doesn’t do bi-directional sync - set up to keep a sync between a NAS and two Macs - testing indicated that it only moves files from Source to Destination. Created new (empty) test folders on the destination then ran sync again - the new test folders were deleted, and the source folder did not have them. Also noted that after one sync, repeating the sync on the same script can create more changes - odd.

So it’s not a sync program - it’s a mirror program - from source to destination. Which is fine if that’s all you need. But it doesn’t ‘sync’ as the name implies.

Maybe an update in order?? (Try synctoy on Windows - an ideal app that’s a great example to emulate.)
