Description

Staring at your computer for too long is not good, and Take A Break, Please is a simple menubar app that forces* you to take your break. You can configure time between breaks and the duration of the break.

When the scheduled break starts, the app will dim your screen and prompt you to take a short break. Take that time to stand up, do some stretching, take a walk, or get yourself a cup of coffee.

*As the app attempts to force you to take a break, there's no easy way to leave the break screen. If you are really determined to work during the break... well, you can brighten up your screen to the max, and terminate the app from the menubar. But, take a break, please?

#features:
- simple, easy to use interface
- configurable work and break period
- displays time left for current work period
- displays notification a minute before the break
- launch at login

Very nice way to force me to step away

CTRL-ALT-DEL

Very useful app for those of us who get tied into our computer and forget to periodically step away for a break. This works very well and I like that it allows me to set the time limit between activations.

The one thing I do not like is when it locks me out when I am right in the middle of something important. It does give a “one minute warning”, however, that notification is readily lost as soon as any other thing pops up in the notifications area. It does have a small timer in the menubar showing the time remaining before the next enforced break, however, when I am focused on work that menubar info is not something I keep in sight/mind

I would like to see one or two modifications to this app:

1 - instead of the little one minute notification that tends to get lost on my 27” iMac I would prefer a larger, bolder warning to pop up in the middle of the screen that would then give me the option to get another 10 minutes before it locks me out.

2 - some way to be able to unlock this in case I do not see the warning notification. I do like that this app sort of forces me to take a break but sometimes getting locked out is very inconvenient (and I promise to take break a bit later…really).

One or both of those changes to this app would make this a 5 star app to me.

I also have bought a few of Hong Wee Teo’s other apps and they are all very stylish looking and simple to use. I use the “Simple Countdown” app all the time.

Helpful but frustrating!

Love the program and it is very helpful in keeping me from never leaving the keyboard. I would like it, however, if there was a way the application could start the countdown from the last input. For example, something calls me away from my desk 15 minutes before the timer ends. Almost always I return with 3 seconds left, the screen goes blank and then I need to find some info. I have to squint through the blackout screen, quit the app (or reset the timer) and it’s off for the rest of the day.

Love the original app name.

Yesterday I wondered if there was an app that would force me to take breaks and thankfully stumbled across this one. Love how it darkens your screen to really make you step away. The only suggestion for development is to make a sound or beep to indicate the break is over so you don’t have to pay attention to the clock countdown. Other than that, works perfectly.

Nice work, Hong Wee!
