WHAT IS TALKSPACE?
Talkspace is a platform that connects users with a licensed therapist. Whether you’re experiencing symptoms of stress, feeling depressed or having anxiety attacks, Talkspace is the place for you. It’s also great for couples that need a new spark of motivation, to relieve tension and to increase positive feelings in their relationship. We will connect you with a dedicated, licensed therapist for on-demand, private text, audio, and video chat therapy, anywhere and anytime. All in the palm of your hand, on your phone or web browser!
HOW DOES TALKSPACE WORK?
Talkspace is easy. Anyone can start with a free consultation, so you can chat with a Matching Agent who will answer any questions and ultimately match you with a therapist based on a number of factors. As a Talkspace member, you will have access to your private counselor and secure chat room where you can discuss your life, ask questions and raise troubling issues. Your Talkspace therapist will check in with you based on your agreement with them (usually 1-2 times a day).
TALKSPACE IN THE PRESS
• “The process was identical to what I had experienced in traditional therapy, except that I had access to it anytime I pulled out my iPhone.” – Wall Street Journal
• “Roughly 46 million Americans had a mental illness in 2011 but only 39% sought treatment. Barriers to seeking treatment include the cost, stigma, and time commitment. Talkspace aims to erase those barriers.” – CNN
• “It’s really like texting. It’s easier to write out my feelings, rather than when you’re sitting in a room with someone and it’s hard to explain things.” – Mashable
• “I spent 7 days with a therapist who only knew me via text message and I might never go back to traditional therapy again.” – Business Insider
• “By keeping users anonymous, Talkspace hopes to alleviate the stigma that currently prevents 28% of people who need mental health care, but don’t receive treatment, from finding a therapist.” – The Verge
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
For only $32 per week (billed monthly), Talkspace members gain unlimited access to a licensed therapist, free from appointments and the inconvenience of traveling or taking time off work. Our pricing plans are 80% lower than the average co-pay for traditional, in-office therapy appointments (which are usually only one hour long and twice a month).
WHO ARE THE THERAPISTS?
We have over 1000 licensed therapists in the Talkspace network with thousands of years of combined medical experience! Our counselors’ backgrounds vary, specializing in issues that include: stress and anxiety, depression, LGBTQ issues, domestic violence, PTSD, repression, phobia, work/life issues, chronic illness, and many more. Each Talkspace counselor undergoes an extensive background check to ensure proper qualifications and a proven track record of providing excellent service and guidance.
IS TEXT-THERAPY EFFECTIVE?
Some studies show that online chat therapy is as effective as traditional therapy. Other research demonstrates that online therapy is sometimes more effective than face-to-face therapy, as text-messaging allows for more immediate care and higher engagement.

What's New in Version 5.6
We are constantly improving our app and delivering enhancements to the App Store.
As a teen who struggles with depression and anxiety I really thought this would be a great app to help me. The app looked very promising and the reviews were good. So I downloaded the app and gave it a go. I was shut down basically after one message. They asked for my name, age, and reason for being on there. I gave my reasons, and the therapist responded with a nice message, but with a disappointing point in it in my opinion. She was glad I had the courage to find help, but then went on to say that the app was for ages 18 and up, and then gave me links for help I could find elsewhere. I was quite bummed because I didn't see anything about having to be 18. So I removed the app and finally read the description for it. The description never said anything about being 18 or older. The closest thing was saying that plans start at about $32. I was a little mad with myself for not looking at the description earlier, but then I became angry with the app. Not everyone has access to a phone to call a hotline or money for a therapist. I, myself and my family has little money to pay for a therapist to help me. I was really hoping this app would help. Therapists are not cheap and still it isn't cheap or free on this app. I'm disappointed that help like this that could save lives costs money. Suicides and mental health percentages could be so much lower if help was easier to access and afford. I'm glad for an app like this, but disappointed in the help it couldn't provide me.
This app is a life changer!
I looked into therapy and most of it was about 100/session at the least! I've never done therapy before so going to someone also made me nervous. It's not an easy thing to open up about all the things that bother you to a stranger. I loved the idea with being able to text/type to a therapist so I gave this a shot. One month is basically the equivalent to one session with a live therapist! I was a little skeptical that my therapist wouldn't seem to genuinely care, or that I wouldn't get my money's worth but my therapist has proved me wrong. She's there for me when I need it, and when we send voice messages or video chat it's really apparent how much she cares. It's like having a wonderful friend with really helpful tips at your finger tips. I highly recommend this if you want therapy but can't afford a session per week with a live therapist. You can fill your personal chat room whenever you want and they check in twice a day to respond. Your success will be determined by the amount of effort you put into it.
I've been using this app for 9 months now. I love it. It was an adjustment at first. It works more like an email system. But you have the option to leave voice messages and schedule an online face to face. My therapist is not available weekends which is ok with me. I can still write as often as I like. It's great to be able to get things out of my head stat. It did take about 2 months to get comfortable which is the same as adjusting to any new therapy, traditional or other wise. I found the $100 a month to be more affordable that seeing my old therapist once a week at $65/visit (with insurance). I stopped face to face visits because 1)I moved 2)I work full time in a restaurant & 3) I go to school part time. With online therapy I don't have to juggle days and times. I just write and read when it is convenient for me. It is a great app/website. I say give it 6 months before you judge how you like it and if it works for you. I found it to be immensely helpful. And I like my therapist. She has become a good friend.
