Best investment I made in myself in 2017!

I made the decision to try out Talk Space last year around this time when I had some personal goals I knew I wanted to achieve but was getting anxious thinking about where to start or what steps to take. My therapist has been so helpful in giving me an outlet to regularly reflect and think deeply about who I am and how I approach my life and relationships. I love the fact that I can have days/weeks where I message her every day or even multiple times a day or other weeks when I can put it aside and focus on other parts of my life and return later. My schedule right now is so erratic there’s no way I could keep up with a regular in person therapy appointment and there is something another typing that allows me to be more open and vulnerable than I would with a person sitting in front of me. Hands down, joking Talk Space was the best investment I made in myself in 2017. It may not be right for everyone but it’s had a positive impact on me!

The best therapy for therapy skeptics

For the past few years I’ve had a lot of the usual stressors going on in my life and it finally began to feel like I wasn’t keeping up. I have a good amount of friends, including my partner, tell me how beneficial therapy has been for them even on the simplest level of having “someone to talk to about yourself” who is unbiased and unrelated to your day to day life. I finally took the plunge to try Talkspace despite having a very thin budget (read:nearly nonexistent) and I’m so happy I finally got over the skepticism and concern that maybe it wouldn’t help me. I love knowing I can message my therapist at any time and she’s there to hear my worries and dismantle my fears. This platform is a game changer- it’s made therapy affordable (you pay for one month what some therapists charge an hour) and I promise if you’re open to working towards change you will find it, especially because you don’t have to drive to an office to talk to someone, you can do it comfy in your pjs at home!

When I signed up to Talkspace, I was going through one of the worst times of my life. I was struggling with severe anxiety and depression, which prevented me from "functioning" properly. I wanted somebody to talk to in between visits to my main therapist. I didn't think that talking to a therapist online would solve the problem, but I liked the idea of getting things off my chest whenever I wanted - especially when the anxiety spirals out of control.

To my surprise, my therapist was much more than a "listener". Danielle was a knowledgeable professional that helped me understand triggers, identify harming thought-patterns, and create coping mechanisms. She's also helped me with "normal" things such as dealing with difficult co-workers and prioritizing work tasks. In a short period of time, my relationship with her evolved so much to the point that I'm closer to her than I am to my other therapist - the one I see once a week. Not only that, my interactions with her have had much more impact on my life.
