WHAT IS TALKSPACE?
Talkspace is a platform that connects users with a licensed therapist. Whether you’re experiencing symptoms of stress, feeling depressed or having anxiety attacks, Talkspace is the place for you. It’s also great for couples that need a new spark of motivation, to relieve tension and to increase positive feelings in their relationship. We will connect you with a dedicated, licensed therapist for on-demand, private text, audio, and video chat therapy, anywhere and anytime. All in the palm of your hand, on your phone or web browser!
HOW DOES TALKSPACE WORK?
Talkspace is easy. Anyone can start with a free consultation, so you can chat with a Matching Agent who will answer any questions and ultimately match you with a therapist based on a number of factors. As a Talkspace member, you will have access to your private counselor and secure chat room where you can discuss your life, ask questions and raise troubling issues. Your Talkspace therapist will check in with you based on your agreement with them (usually 1-2 times a day).
TALKSPACE IN THE PRESS
• “The process was identical to what I had experienced in traditional therapy, except that I had access to it anytime I pulled out my iPhone.” – Wall Street Journal
• “Roughly 46 million Americans had a mental illness in 2011 but only 39% sought treatment. Barriers to seeking treatment include the cost, stigma, and time commitment. Talkspace aims to erase those barriers.” – CNN
• “It’s really like texting. It’s easier to write out my feelings, rather than when you’re sitting in a room with someone and it’s hard to explain things.” – Mashable
• “I spent 7 days with a therapist who only knew me via text message and I might never go back to traditional therapy again.” – Business Insider
• “By keeping users anonymous, Talkspace hopes to alleviate the stigma that currently prevents 28% of people who need mental health care, but don’t receive treatment, from finding a therapist.” – The Verge
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
For only $32 per week (billed monthly), Talkspace members gain unlimited access to a licensed therapist, free from appointments and the inconvenience of traveling or taking time off work. Our pricing plans are 80% lower than the average co-pay for traditional, in-office therapy appointments (which are usually only one hour long and twice a month).
WHO ARE THE THERAPISTS?
We have over 1000 licensed therapists in the Talkspace network with thousands of years of combined medical experience! Our counselors’ backgrounds vary, specializing in issues that include: stress and anxiety, depression, LGBTQ issues, domestic violence, PTSD, repression, phobia, work/life issues, chronic illness, and many more. Each Talkspace counselor undergoes an extensive background check to ensure proper qualifications and a proven track record of providing excellent service and guidance.
IS TEXT-THERAPY EFFECTIVE?
Some studies show that online chat therapy is as effective as traditional therapy. Other research demonstrates that online therapy is sometimes more effective than face-to-face therapy, as text-messaging allows for more immediate care and higher engagement.

What's New in Version 6.61
We've made some improvements and squashed some bugs. Thank you for your help!
Very pleased so far, but needs landscape on iPad!
So far I’ve only signed up for a plan and selected a therapist. I like how this app (and the people who chat with you) make the whole process so quick and easy compared to finding a “real life” therapist. There was one glitch during signup; after submitting my credit card I got an error, but then when I retried it said I had already purchased.
After text chatting with the intake person and paying, it took about 4 hours to get a reply offering me 3 different therapists (you can always ask for another 3 to pick from); what was interesting to me is that each had different credentials (LPC vs. LCSW vs. LMFT - you can look them up), so you need to pay attention to what those specialties are and how they would fit with your needs - I didn’t notice anything in the app that pointed you towards getting more info on these credentials.
Other than that it’s all good so far. But I’m surprised that an app which will mostly be used for text chat won’t work in landscape on my iPad. I have a keyboard case, and like nearly all keyboard cases, the iPad is stuck in landscape mode. So having this app only work in portrait makes my keyboard useless. I’ve ended up using their website instead on my iPad, which isn’t perfect (no notifications and slow updates) but it’s usable.
I started using talkspace a month ago and I’m a big fan of it. For me it was pretty much impossible to see a therapist in person during business hours. And seeing the therapist once a week for 50 minutes wasn’t effective.
With talkspace I can check in with my therapist every day Mon-Fri. And of course I can message over the weekend with the understanding that my therapist won’t be able to respond until Monday. Fortunately I really clicked with my therapist from the start and she has been very responsive. She helps me think about things in a different way and gives me coping tools. Talkspace is exactly what I need during this season of my life.
The platform works well, and is being updated as needed. The one area that could be improved is compensation for the therapists. In order to attract and retain therapists, compensation needs to align with value. I believe this in the future of therapy, and more people will now have access to therapy. This is awesome, but the developers need to remember that without high quality therapists the platform won’t be worth much.
I LOVE TalkSpace! I wasn’t sure what to expect when starting therapy. But I was matched with a few different therapists, and from there got to pick the one I thought would best fit my needs. And I picked the right one the first time! She’s so caring and helpful... I can’t even begin to say how much my Therapist has helped me in such a short time. I do plan on continuing with TalkSpace long term. And I’ve read reviews stating some people weren’t happy with the Therapist they chose, etc. Well TalkSpace makes its easy to request a new Therapist! You have to remember that not every Therapist is going to be the right fit for every person. And it’s up to YOU to find that fit. Just like a primary care physician, a hairstylist, a daycare... how many times have you switched to a new one because they weren’t the right fit? This is your mental health and only you know what that right fit is. TalkSpace gets 5 stars in my book. I’ve never felt lost or confused along the way... they provide a lot of information and want the best for you.
