Description

TapeMeasure is a GPS based measurement tool which gives you the ability to take measurements from a previous position to your current position. It displays the latitude, longitude, altitude, and accuracy of your current position, as well as shows you the current measurement being taken. Measurement information includes the distance, height, and direction (heading) of the current position from the previous position. This information can be displayed in either feet/miles or meters/kilometers.

Once you find a position with enough desired accuracy, you can start a measurement and either watch the live measurement or exit the application and continue the measurement later. This feature is useful for saving power when GPS is enabled. You can pause measurement updates and then either resume measuring from the same start point, or reset your measurement and start again whenever you desire.

Please keep in mind that even under the very best conditions with a strong GPS signal on the iPhone or 3G iPad, measurement accuracy will be on the order of several meters/yards, and not inches. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MEASURE SMALL THINGS like doorways, couches, paintings, etc. This tool is useful for measuring LARGE DISTANCES ONLY. A good app

I'm surprised at the lack of understanding of GPS and accuracy in some of the reviews. It isn't meant to be accurate to the foot, or even ten feet. This app does what it says it will, as well as the iPhone will allow. I do have a suggestion: It doesn't make any sense to have three or four digits of precision in the miles, lat/lon, etc. It just causes clutter and the numbers are meaningless. The seconds of lattitude and longitude should be to one tenth of a second. Miles should be to about 1/10 or 1/100 of a mile. By the way, thanks for having the lat/lon display in degress, minutes and seconds. That's the format we use for survey work and finding places when hiking and using USGA maps.

Learn about GPS

People who understand how GPS will understand the limitations of this program. No software can totally make up for the loss of accuracy in altitude measurement using space-based GPS alone. When aircraft use GPS to provide vertical guidance, it is augmented with barometry or a WAAS or LAAS ground station. The iPhone is not a piece of survey equipment nor does it have a barometric altimeter (but my watch does). Kudos to the dev for a clever app useful to people who don't expect miracles.

Is there a way to get a refund

Brad1201

This was totally not what I expected. Granted, it is my fault for not reading the information more clearly, but I thought I would be able to use it as, well, a measuring tape. Turns out, it can only measure miles, not feet. It doesn't work like a measuring tape at all. The picture and name are completely misleading, and I want to know is there a way to remove it and get my 99 cents back. I want to be clear that it does what it is supposed to, but that doesn't match up to how it is advertised. Box doesn't match the contents description.
