I used to be able to get calls or make calls on mine. However, I don't have that option anymore after an update. People do still call but I have no way of answering them.(the option is gone from my app...states Textfree, not text & call like before) My son had the same app on his iPod, after the update he couldn't get or make calls. Fortunately for him, he was able to go back to the older Textfree app. I don't have that option and customer service has no idea! Other than that it is a great app for texting! As we have no cellphone service in my area! :)
I'm not happy with this service and app. Is Pinger recycling phone numbers? If this isn't used in 30 days, Pinger deactivates the phone number and gives it to someone else. A new phone number has to be acquired to use the phone service for a given time or lose the phone number again and again. What good is that? What's the benefit if this doesn't work with unlimited time and when users need it? It may be a great app for those who do a lot of texting and making calls but not for those who text and use other means of communication in addition to this. This service has to be consistently used, within a time frame, to gain any benefit of it or it is deactivated.
All the apps by pinger for their texting service, which includes the textfree, textfree voice, and all the pinger apps, are junk. They went from bad to worst when it comes to advertising.
I paid for a year to remove the ads and I still received texts advertising dumb games. Now that my year is up, I'm getting ads every few minutes or anytime I open the app. Also, every time you send a text a half page ad pops up. Not only did I paid to hide the ads, I purchased their paid pinger messenger versions and I still had the problem. Even when I used the paid app version and the hide ads subscription, the ads kept coming. At least not as frequently as now.
I've been testing another app, Text+ and Text+ Gold to replace this junk and so far I like it, but there are other apps that I'm about to start testing.
I've had enough with advertisement even when I paid to remove them. I e-mailed the developer about it and I never heard from them. So very shortly I'll be kicking them to the curve.
