Not as good as the phone version.
I have used probably every version of his program, trying to find the most reliable one. Unfortunately, none of them are. Are they better than nothing? Yes, but this iPad version in particular has its issues. While texting does come through, it is not always on time. Picture messaging closes the program every attempt to use it, and why is there no voice option? The phone version is updated regularly, offers the same texting options, now offers picture messaging tied to the number instead of some weird e-mail address that no one can remember, as opposed to the one shown in the account info when you check that was wrong. I have an iPad, and want to use this program. I can't when it isn't even up to par to the phone version. This hasn't even been updated in over a year. That is far too long for an update when monthly updates go to your phone app. I'd go so far as to call that unacceptable. So please. Update this program, and get it up to par with your phone version. I don't think that is asking too much.
I used to be able to get calls or make calls on mine. However, I don't have that option anymore after an update. People do still call but I have no way of answering them.(the option is gone from my app...states Textfree, not text & call like before) My son had the same app on his iPod, after the update he couldn't get or make calls. Fortunately for him, he was able to go back to the older Textfree app. I don't have that option and customer service has no idea! Other than that it is a great app for texting! As we have no cellphone service in my area! :)
I'm not happy with this service and app. Is Pinger recycling phone numbers? If this isn't used in 30 days, Pinger deactivates the phone number and gives it to someone else. A new phone number has to be acquired to use the phone service for a given time or lose the phone number again and again. What good is that? What's the benefit if this doesn't work with unlimited time and when users need it? It may be a great app for those who do a lot of texting and making calls but not for those who text and use other means of communication in addition to this. This service has to be consistently used, within a time frame, to gain any benefit of it or it is deactivated.
