What's New in Version 3.11
Relatively good magazine reader
When compared with other magazine readers, this app is quite good. I much prefer it to reading the print, to which I used to subscribe. It reproduces the print version as much as practical and yet is nicely adapted and even enhanced for the iPad. Allowing access to dictionaries would be an even nicer enhancement, but my other magazine readers likewise do not allow that, or text selection. Also, I'd like to be able to clip to Evernote or at least bookmark favorite articles.
Not sure why there are so many criticisms but my guess is they are due to memory issues (magazines are big), so maybe close other apps. The app never crashed for me. Also, double-tap the page and pinch to zoom to the font size of your desire.
Frankly, this app is incomplete. It seems that the contract for building it ran out slightly before it was finished.
For example, sharing an article by email doesn't include the title of the article. That's a simple oversight made by someone who didn't have time to actually use the app before shipping it. If it had been used once to share an article, the oversight would have been noticed and corrected quite easily.
Another example: the app has no state preservation. If I'm halfway through an article and then switch to the App Store to write an unhappy review, then switch back to the app to finish the article I find that the app has reset to the front page. Not only did it forget where I was in the article, it forgot that I was even reading an article at all.
App needs work
Having been a subscriber to the print magazine for well over 10 years I was excited to also get it on my iPad. The Atlantic is a good print magazine, However, the App is very poorly executed. When I leave it for any reason, it goes back to the front cover and I have to find my place again. I cannot change the screen to night vision (black with white letters) so I cannot read the articles close to bedtime as a blue light screen interferes with the body's natural melatonin production, delaying sleep circadian rhythm. Every ePub e-book allows that option! Also, I want to be able to turn pages left to right rather than up and down. The Atlantic App really needs some work.
