***Selected as one of the Mac App Store Best of 2013!***

"What might at first seem like a straightforward 2D puzzle-platformer is in fact a clever throwback to classic point-and-click adventures of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s."
(4 stars) - MacLife

"It is a very enjoyable brain teaser that attempts to push the boundaries of the genre in its own, mysterious way." (4 stars) - OneClickMac

The Cave is a new adventure game from Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion creator Ron Gilbert, and Double Fine Productions, the award-winning studio behind Psychonauts and Brütal Legend.

Assemble your team of three from seven unlikely adventurers, each with their own unique personalities and stories, then descend into the mysterious depths to explore locations including a subterranean amusement park and a medieval castle, not to mention a fully armed and ready-to-launch nuclear tipped ICBM. The Cave awaits.

Key Features:

Seamlessly Spelunk – Explore a ginormous completely seamless cave-world presented in astounding cross-section that will blow... your... mind.

Assemble a team of 3 explorers – From the Hillbilly to the Time Traveller; all 7 characters have their own unique personalities, special talents and a dark and secret reason for descending The Cave.

A Cave like no other – If you enjoy spelunking and dark rocky caverns then be prepared to be disappointed. Your first clue The Cave is a place like no other will be when you stumble across the subterranean amusement park or the medieval castle, not to mention the fully armed and ready to launch nuclear tipped missile.

Let’s work together – Switch between the 3 characters, in cooperation with each other, and solve physical and adventure puzzles as you learn the truth behind why they are here. Share the cave exploring adventure with friends in local co-op.

Unlock all the secrets of the cave – Replay the adventure with a new set of characters for a whole different experience including unique story, puzzles and areas of The Cave, plus hidden treasures (not redeemable for cash) and collectables.

Watch the Cave come alive – Experience the detailed, stunning art style and humor that only Ron Gilbert and Double Fine can dream up.

Very enjoyable!

The Cave includes unique stories of seemingly unrelated characters that allows for differentiating combinations of characters to solve meaningful puzzles. Each character comes with a story that has a valuable lesson behind them, and the puzzles are not very difficult, but they are just enough to be somewhat challenging. They have similar mechanics to one another, but the layouts and settings of them are different, making them exciting to explore. The order inwhich you solve the puzzles follow the story lines, allowing them to be understood easier. Also, the graphics display a beautiful style which works well with the grotesque-yet comedic-Narrator, that speaks directly to you.

It may be hard to play at first, because the controls are not explained. Once you've completed the game with a character, there is no point in replaying the game, unless to complete it with another character. There also have been times where I've experienced some very VERY minor glitches with characters getting stuck... Although these minor factors did not take away from my enjoyment of the game.

All in all, this game is very unique and was enjoyed thoroughly in its entirety.

Good game. Not very replayable. Now with achievements.

It's a good game, with a story that deals with the darkness in all our hearts taken to comical extremes. The Cave is one more NPC, and it likes to break the fourth wall with some funny lines about the main characters current situation.

I like the fact that you have to pick a party of 3, and that the main characters have different abilities to solve puzzles, but this actually makes no difference in the game, since the only abilities you actually need are the ones limited to each character's personal stages. Unlike the original Maniac Mansion... Once figured out, the puzzles are the same no matter which characters are in your party.

It now supports achievements, which although I think they're pretty pointless, seeing the consoles have them, they're nice to have as well.

Beautiful Game Ruined by HORRIBLE Controls

I admit that I love games like this that involve critical thinking. Big fan of the Monkey Island games as well. The Cave is beautifully rendered and the tasks are sufficiently challenging to provide a few hours of stimulating gameplay. What really ruined this game for me was the pitiful controls, or should I say the lack thereof.

For those used to games where you can do something like jump over an object or a pit full of spikes (for example), be prepared to spend several minutes trying to do the same thing in The Cave. I became frustrated beyond belief by the fussiness of the controls and having to navigate over obstacles.

The game is cool, the controls are the worst I’ve seen of any game available in the Mac App Store. Before buying, consider whether you’re willing to deal with this major shortcoming.
