The Florida Times-Union

Open iTunes to buy and download apps.
The Florida Times-Union, the First Coast's No. 1 source of news and information, offers a sleek, intuitive app for your iPhone and iPad.
The app is free to download and run; however, a digital membership is required to access its content. Those with All-Access Membership can log in when prompted.
With the Florida Times-Union app, you can:
• Download the day's Jacksonville news and read it on your smartphone or tablet, online or offline.
• Get breaking news throughout the day.
• Take advantage of "plus" content, such as videos, slideshows and Web links.
• Email a story to a friend or share it on a variety of social media outlets.
What's New in Version 4.0.2
- Redesigned interface.
- Support for iPhone.
- Improved social sharing.
The latest upgrade took this app from good to terrible. Pop up ads, intrusive menus, have ruined the reading experience. And why do we have to put up with pop up ads on top of ads within the text, having PAID for the subscription to begin with? The interface is terrible....page scrolling never works properly, often changing pages rather than scrolling...and returning to the page you were trying to read resets it back to the top of the page (rather than where your article was located). Furthermore, offline reading is ponderous and works poorly, if at all. Maddening, frustrating, and offensive. Get rid of this and go back to the old format. I will be cancelling my subscription because of this update....after 26 years of continuous subscribing.
What was the purpose of making this app so much more difficult to use? It only allows for two issues to be held offline (which is how I read it, since I am not always in wifi area) and then after a few weeks doesn't allow for any offline use. It has crashed four times today alone and I have had to reload from iTunes each time. It's slow, clunky, alternates between unresponsive and hyper responsive to touch, and is overall awful. I just want to read the paper, period. The designer needs to hold a newspaper in his/her hands, read as we used to in the good old days, and replicate that user experience! Nothing more is needed!
The "upgrade" has ruined this app
Apparently someone in the IT department of the paper tried to justify his/her job by cramming as many useless features as possible into what was previously a simple and easy to use newspaper app. The "upgraded" version is VERY difficult to use, what with pages jumping backwards and forwards repeatedly, and needless buttons obstructing the printed word.
One should be able to read a pricey digital newspaper without being caused to shout curses in frustration. Life is too short to have to deal with this "upgrade."
Think I'm going to cancel my long-standing subscription if the TU doesn't fix this mess soon.
