The Gainesville Sun for iPad

By GateHouse Media, Inc.

Open iTunes to buy and download apps.

The Sun now brings its thorough coverage of Gainesville and the University of Florida to the iPad. The Gainesville Sun iPad application combines the best of print and digital in a new, compact digital package.

Like our print newspaper, it's a relaxing, lean-back reading experience; you can browse through all our sections and finish with a feeling that you've read today's edition.

Like, the app provides digital extras: breaking news throughout the day, blogs and additional photos in articles. Photo galleries and videos display full screen, taking advantage of the iPad's gorgeous high-resolution display. You can also adjust text size, mark your favorite articles for later reading, and share stories easily by e-mail or post to Facebook or Twitter.

Navigation is quick and easy: click to the next article or use the pop-up bar at the bottom of of our articles to swipe through all the headlines in the same section. It's a news-you-can-touch experience we think you'll enjoy.

Not ready for ios 8

The old version of this app is very limited and basic. The new one looks better, but just isn't working. The weather is not showing anything. If you click on the icon to forward, it shows a blank black screen. If you click on an article, you often get a blank page that says "log in" at the top. I'm a subscriber, would be happy to do do, but am never given that opportunity. There are no settings available. C'mon, Sun, get it right!

Poor news paper app

This app shows you headlines and a few lines of text for the articles in all sections you choose along with nice pictures, but that's ALL. If you want to read the article you get an error message telling you the page cannot be found. Their design is to get you to pay $9.95 a month for a subscription if you want to read anything. Only a few articles actually open. None of the sports articles open for full reading.

Been waiting a long time for this. Easy to navigate, makes reading the Sun a much more enjoyable experience than the digital edition. Now if it has the full content of the paper and more pictures to accompany each article it would be perfect!
