Best kept secret in brick and mortar app history
Customer service fail today. Home Depot... tsk tsk tsk..... I go to home depot all the time. Though I prefer Lowe’s, Home Depot has better prices. Every time I go there to look for something specific, it’s like searching for a needle in a haystack. I don’t think there’s ever been a time where I walked into that store, quickly found what I needed and left with no issues. When I ask the “sales associates” to help me... they usually point me in the right direction each time. Mind you, I usually have to tackle their “sales associates” to the ground to force them to help me, i get help.
So, the service failure amongst other things is that in my history as a Home Depot customer, not one of their “sales reps” have enlightened me by showing me how awesome their iPhone app is.....Omg!!! The Home Depot app is theeeeee best kept secret in brick and mortar app history. I would say this app is second to the Starbucks app when it comes to convenience. It is full of insanely useful features including one where you can upload a picture of the item you’re looking for and the app recognizes it and, get this.... it pulls up a store map so that you can easily locate the item on your own inside any Home Depot store. It’s so cool!!! I’m sure I can’t be the only one that walks into that store completely lost and confused. This app makes it so much easier.
Hate the change
As a Home Depot employee, I probably use the app way more then the average person. It’s great to find where something is, if we even have an item, but best of all identifying an object. If a customer came in with an item that is not used commonly I use to be able to take a picture and bam similar or the item would come up. With the new updates I have to hold the item for a bit in order for the app to process it, this takes too long. I used to be able to just take the pic set my phone down & continue processing the other items. This wastes my and the customers time. There is a take picture option but this requires me to visit 2 different apps, the picture app and the THD app. When I’m done I now have the pic left in my albums just using memory until I’m able to get in and delete them. The worst part of this whole change is that once the item is identified, it brings up the items that are possible matches, I can then select an option to see details, sounds good right... nope because if for whatever reason the option I picked is the wrong one, i have to go back to the other options, pressing back then erases all the work I’ve already done. I then have to scan the item all over again just to bring up all the options again. I absolutely hate the change and wish it never happened.
So close to being a 5 star app
I installed this app on a whim, not expecting much. Turns out it’s quite a great app, though not without flaws. The store inventory is awesome, as is the UPC scanning feature, and the ability to see your receipts when you link your credit cards. The image recognition seems like it could be useful, though in truth I haven’t found a good case for it. Even the real time SMS chat initiated from the app is awesome. I actually managed to chat with a real, live human being (or a really excellent AI bot).
Now the warts: the shopping list experience is totally nonsensical. You can add items to an on-device list without creating an account or logging in, but you can’t manage the list in any way- not even delete items off the list. Imagine how frustrating it is to have a shopping list when you’re wandering the aisles, but have to mentally cross items off of as you pick them up off the shelves. Secondly, if you log in, you can create lists that persist across devices, but inexplicably, you have to use the desktop website to delete the items on it. Huh?!? Why??
Next problem: as you scroll to read product reviews, the view refreshes and forces you back to the top. Infuriating.
HD, please push out an update to fix these issues. You’re so close to having a truly great app.
