Not So Good

The app—and the website for that matter—are not so good. Very dated and short on features. What few feature it does have don’t work consistently. For example, FaceID has never worked, when logging in banking is frequently “unavailable,” and 2FA has to be done every time you login. And when you login the first and biggest thing you see is a picture of a smiling woman. That’s not an issue, but weird

What few banking features the app does have work as a minimum viable product. You can see transactions and deposit checks, which is nice. But even for those features set your expectations low. For example, most banking apps now automatically capture your check, however with CIBC you have to position the check and do everything your self. Anything slightly complex, bank transfers or viewing account numbers for example, have to be done on the website. Things like adding beneficiaries can only be done by email or at a branch.

All that being said CIBC is a good bank if you live in Chicago.

Great bank, bad app

As others have stated, the app is horribly outdated and lacking basic features. To give one example of many, you cannot initiate a transfer to an external account through the app, you must sign in through a web browser. Its also very buggy — I tried to transfer funds between my two CIBC accounts in the app, but it complained that I could not transfer funds between accounts that did not have a previously established transfer relationship. I logged in on my phone’s web browser though and had absolutely no issues completing the transfer. I really like the bank and services, but the app experience should be incredibly embarrassing for CIBC.

Very buggy

I’ve had many issues throughout the years with this app - mostly logging in. Worst problem is calling CIBC support for this app. u get a non tech person that can’t help. I’ve had to move on from this bank due to this buggy app
