Very buggy literally and figuratively... The hints don't work when ever you're in the close up locations like inside a chest or other small location. The hint button makes a noise, but nothing happens. Also all the Egyptian tablets are in the box from the beginning although you haven't found them all and the whole story is there, but it keeps popping up again every time you find a new tablet as though it is giving you a new part of he story, but the whole thing is there from the beginning. The little written story was actually more interesting than the game itself.
The mini games are really annoying. In the one with the tablets they just wouldn't stick in the place they were supposed to. If one finally stuck and was accidentally removed, it wouldn't stick again. After trying to put it back where it was before several times, I just gave up.
The graphics are nice in normal view but blurry and low res when you zoom in. The story was practically nonexistent but the comic book style cutaways were cute. All in all, a very mediocre game, rather boring really, with a lot of bugs that need to be fixed...
Mediocre for two primary reasons
Note: This review is of the version purchased in-app from the free installation.
1. In the close-up screens (where there's a sparkle that, when touched, zooms in on a specific small area or a container in a room), the hint clock would run but my attempts to activate the hint after the clock stopped would do nothing. (This was true of every close-up screen; hints worked fine in rooms but not in these close-ups.) A few times, I had to resort to checking the walk-through on the developer's Web site to be able to finish a close-up screen.
2. The game's ending was abrupt and anti-climactic, and the story seemed unfinished. What happened to the villain? Did the heroine return home safe and triumphant? (Actually, the writing isn't good at all, but that's not surprising. This is just a find-the-objects game, not a literary one, so the story is merely a vehicle for search opportunities.)
Not a huge fan of this game. It was mostly just hidden objects, so if you like that them this game has plenty for you. Also, the graphics are pretty neat - as you scroll from side to side in a room it looks 3-dimensional. So those are some good things. The not-so-good things are that the story is kind of non sensical. You collect a particular object throughout the game, which is supposed to tell some ancient story, but it has absolutely no bearing on the game. And what's the grandma's big secret? That she made a run of the mill archaeological discovery? And then the ending is...anticlimactic at best. My biggest draw in playing these games is for the exciting stories. And I have no problem with a cheesy story (which many of these types of games have) as long as it is somewhat coherent and develops throughout the game. This one fails to do that.
