"Learning never exhausts the mind" - Leonardo da Vinci

"The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you" - B.B. King

------------------------------------------

In 1987, The Ultimate Alphabet was a publishing phenomenon. A New York Times & Sunday Times bestseller, the puzzle book featured 26 beautifully painted images, each of which jam-packed with items starting with each letter of the alphabet.

Now on the iPad it’s a fully interactive hidden object puzzle game for the next generation to get their minds in a twist over. It will keep you mentally agile and test your vocabulary and general knowledge to its limits, that’s a guarantee!

Abbey, apricot, atlas, artilleryman, ammunition, aardvark, autogyro, astrolabe, aryballos, amputee and the Egyptian god Anubis are a few examples of the 362 words you might find in the letter A.

Cryptic clues, hints and jigsaw jumbles are there to help the player with the more obscure words in the game.

The cryptic clues, which are in the crossword style, have been written by Philip Marlow and Brian Dungate. Philip is a regular setter for The Financial times, The Telegraph and The Independent.

Coins, medals and trophies are awarded for the level of achievement; this will depend on the amount of help received for completing each of the individual letters. All the words in the game have been grouped into the 45 categories ranging from Flags to Food to Mineralology and Weapons.

Best game ever!!

My family is addicted to this fantastic game! We play it together via AirPlay through our Apple TV. It's brilliant, and our kids get so excited whenever we unlock a new coin or medal. :)

Two requests:

1) The app still tries to start up Openfeint when you first open it, even though Openfeint has been dead for a long time. The result: the app gets hung, freezing at the "Loading Openfeint..." message. The only way around this is to turn off my iPad's Wifi and open The Ultimate Alphabet App while the iPad is offline. This is an extra pain in the neck since we need Wifi to AirPlay the app through our Apple TV. I have to turn off Wifi, load the app, go out and turn Wifi back on, then return to the app, then turn AirPlay on. All those extra steps could be avoided if Toytek would simply disable Openfeint.

2) Please, please, PLEASE, Toytek: release more letters!! I'm on my knees, begging and pleading. As my little girl would say, "Pretty please with sugar on top and ice cream and a cherry?!"

Fun game, but too many errors

I love the concept of this game, but there are frequent typos, the occasional mislabeling, and the clues can be unimaginative. The bundles aren't cheap, so I would expect better quality control. Never heard back from the company after I wrote to them about these issues, so I won't be buying any more letters.

Pricey, but educational

Fun game, as well as very educational. I agree that a few of the clues left you feeling cheated, but at least they are all solvable. It's pricey, but must have taken a loooong time to develop. Takes a ton of time for the letter A alone-- I can't even I agile how long it will take to get midway through the 'bet!
