What's New in Version 8.4
Thank you for upgrading your WSJ app! In this version, we have introduced a brand-new "follow author" feature designed to get you closer to The Journal's top-class reporters. Simply tap the icon next to an author's byline in the app and you will be signed up to receive a push notification any time that author publishes a new story. You can see all of your followed authors and update your preferences at any time in the app's notification settings page.
We have also upgraded the app to support rich push notifications, allowing for an expanded view of a notification that shows the image or video associated with a story, and allows you to watch a video in the notification itself when one is attached.
The other big news in version 8.4 is that we have restored the ability to select a paragraph of text in WSJ articles, and to copy or share it using your preferred social and messaging apps.
This update also includes a number of bug fixes for iPhone and iPad, addressing crashes that some readers have experienced when tapping articles in our Today screen widget or when opening stories from push notifications, and by improving performance on older devices.
As always, thank you for your feedback, and know that more improvements are on the way.

Customer Reviews
Good app, but need to fix some bugs
I would give the app a five-star rating but for a couple of bugs and limitations.
Pros: The app is very easy to navigate and very intuitive. I like that you can easily pull up a summary of articles in each section.
I especially like that I can download all the editions of the paper that I want so that I can read offline. This is especially nice for air travel.
Cons: I wish it had a setting to automatically download all of the editions for the previous week. When rushing to catch a flight, i don't always have time to check to make sure I have the editions I want downloaded. Moreover, editions don't stay downloaded, so it's always necessary to check at the last minute when boarding a flight.
The app offers links to related articles from previous editions within articles, but you can't access the link unless it is from the past week AND you have that edition downloaded.
Swiping from page to page and tapping the link to the next article is sometimes balky and causes the app to crash. When this happens, I've found that I have to open the app, then immediately hit the back link or it will just keep crashing. I then have to skip the article that I was reading and return to it only after reading a couple of other articles first.
Disgrace
This isn't about online..this is about online and hard copy. It is a disgrace what you gave done to this paper. You are one of the two great business newspapers in the world. Instead of sticking to your knitting, as the FT has done, you are trying to be another NY Times. Sports, arts, both of which pale in comparison to the NYT. The politics and general news expansion is ok if it were incremental, but you have emasculated your business coverage to save money. it used to take me 45 minutes to read the journal, now it takes 15 minutes. Your front page and opinion sections are still first rate. I used to feel that I couldn't go a day w/o reading the journal, no more. Your Saturday edition is good THATS where you should be doing the arts, sports stuff, not every day. I read you both ways, the on line version is fine, sharing an article is easy. But how about some more business stuff! My partner has switched to the FT, I may do the same.
The BEST way to start EVERY day with the WSJ on the iPad
This the BEST companion to the print version. When I get up at 5 the paper is not here, but my electronic format is. I read the front page & the opinions. If time then more. In the evening I read in the print version what I did not in the morning. The iPad app permits me to read the Journal when I travel to Europe & Asia, which is almost once a month to either. Not buggy or hard to navigate, a solid app. This is what you do NOT leave home without. Or stay at home to read first thing in the morning.
They have changed back to a stand alone app. I now just open the app. Great improvement! Also they keep updating. The issue now downloads quickly. The one app I read EVERY day.
