No more 5 minute grill checks. Yay
Perhaps I worry too much, which is why I obsessively check on my meat every 3 to 5 minutes when grilling. Kinda tethers me to the grill while everyone else is nice and comfortable inside. I used my meat thermometer for the first time and it was nice being able to monitor the grill while in the comforts of my home. If you have a thick metal grill like I do, you will need to have a Bluetooth device (phone, tablet) near the grill and connected to your WiFi along with another (phone, table) inside also connected to your WiFi so they can share the MeatStick data with each other. You will need to download the MeatStick app on both devices and connect to their cloud. A Bluetooth signal is not very strong through metal enclosures. This was not a big deal for me, because I had an extra Bluetooth enabled device I could put near the grill. Bottom line: I like it and would recommend it.
Location required to use the APP?
It’s a wireless meat thermometer! What possible reason could this APP have to require me to enable location services? NONE! Glad I checked out the APP before I bought the thermometer.
ThermaQ has a nice, extremely accurate bbq thermometer and App, connects via Bluetooth, doesn’t require location services to be enabled. It’s not like Mach, the speed of which varies with altitude. It’s a meat thermometer!
Do you believe the developer’s response? I don’t. I don’t give out my location — that’s why Apple allows you to enable it on a per App basis?
If you don’t care, knock yourself out! I just want others who might care to be aware of the facts before they buy.
Developer Response ,
Hi NotGoneFishing, the way our product works require location services to be enabled. Without it, the phone would not be able to see the meat thermometer. We aren't tracking or using the GPS location of location services at all. Only the Bluetooth portion. However, if that's your concern then there's not much we can do, but to rate us 1 star based on assumptions is quite disappointing.
Why is this not an instant read?
We should be able to refresh in the cook screen. Why isn’t this an instant read? There is a long delay in the stick to extender to phone? Why can’t we see it go up every single degree?
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
