Description

Do you...
... have trouble remembering tens or hundreds of online passwords?
... write passwords down somewhere, even though you know this is not the safest thing to do?
... use the same ("cleverly" modified) password in multiple places, instead of using properly randomized passwords that offer the best security?
... sometimes wish you had a photo of a creditcard, passport or other document handy?
... want to securely store lots of other confidential information, photos, animated GIFs, office documents, you name it?
... want all this to be secure, but still very simple to use?

Then ◆The Vault◆ is for you!

The Vault provides straightforward, easy to use, secure storage for all your documents and other data, such as passwords, login credentials and any other confidential information. It can securely store any number of documents, images, screenshots or photos along with your confidential information.

* 256-bit AES encryption *
While storage and access is simple, The Vault uses rock-solid, industry standard encryption.
[technical details below]

◆ ◆ ◆ WHY IS IT BETTER ? ◆ ◆ ◆

▸ The Vault is very simple to use, yet it employs industry-standard encryption to keep your data safe.
(Some other - payed - apps do too, but some apps advertised as "secure" really do not, and for example save your data using a simple base-64 encoding: your information looks scrambled, but is as readable as plain text when you know how).

▸ The Vault will - never - show ad banners! We hate them too.

▸ The Vault stores information on * your * device. Not on some server somewhere on the net.

▸ Securely storing information is as simple as entering free text!

▸ The Vault can securely store photos and pictures from your camera or photo library; for example a copy of your passport, credit card, or just the serial numbers of some equipment you own. Anything.

▸ The Vault can securely store - and play - animated GIFs.

▸ The Vault can securely store *any* office or other document.

▸ Many secured documents can be viewed directly from The Vault, including PDFs, Keynote, Numbers, Pages, Powerpoint, Excel and Word files.

▸ You can optionally import data exported from your previous password app (or any other source that can provide the data).

▸ Automatically and securely backups your data!

◆ ◆ ◆ TECHNICAL DETAILS ◆ ◆ ◆

This is the part that matters.
This is the part that is hard to get right.
This is the part that makes the difference between actual security and insecurity.

Claiming “military-grade” (or “industry standard” ;-) encryption is meaningless.
Even claiming “256-bit AES encryption”, in itself is not very meaningful.

Example:
Claiming “military-grade” encryption and subsequently simply hashing a master passcode - e.g. using SHA, MD5, or, god forbid, nothing at all (!) - is NOT good.
What ís good is to use a proper key derivation algorithm such as PBKDF2, scrypt or bcrypt.

Another example:
AES is better than ancient algorithms such as Blowfish, Twofish or 3DES.
But even for AES: an app that does not combine encryption with authentication... is doing it wrong. Currently there is some consensus that the best construct is to first encrypt a message and then calculate a message-authentication code, instead of the other way around.

These things matter.

◆ ◆ ◆
The Vault uses PBKDF2 key derivation with an HMAC-SHA512 PRF, and HMAC-SHA256 Encrypt-then-MAC authenticated 256-bit AES encryption, using CommonCrypto functionality only. All cipher and MAC worker keys, as well as all salts and IVs, are purely random data. Keys and IVs are never reused. Each singular piece of data is encrypted with a unique random encryption key, and authenticated with a unique random HMAC key.
Your Master Passcode is never stored; and neither are the derived cipher keys.

THE ONLY THING ●YOU● HAVE TO DO?
Choose a long master passcode. Make it long, and make it random!

Excellent app!!! 😄 NOT ANYMORE!!!

HavenPnt

I highly recommend this app. I have been using it for about a year. I have a tremendous amount of data in it. I recently purchased an iPod fifth-generation and I wanted to sync my data from my iPad. At first I had a little trouble, so I contacted the developer and received immediate excellent feedback to solve my problem. I don't think you can go wrong with this secure document/password storage and encryption app. Thank you so much

Attention developers: With IOS software update 11.0.2 you can no longer move cursor around to a particular spot nor is spelling corrector available.

In addition to above problem, your new back up system is a disaster. I have always backed up to Dropbox with sync (purchased) between two iPads & an iPhone. Now, despite turning back on "send auto (or manual) backups to drop box" none of my devices can access drop box ["can't access folder on Dropbox -in RED"]. You insist on screwing up this system and now even with purchases in your app (sync) I am down to using only one device since I can’t back up. Why do you insist on screwing things up??? I am done after several years of compiling tons of data to my Vault to no avail now. Thanks for NOTHING!

Developer Response

Hi Susan, we indeed had a "can't access folder error" for about a week. It popped up for some people after updating to iOS11. We have already fixed this some time ago. If you just update the app, all will be fine. You Vault data was never in trouble, also Automatic SecureBackup was working all that time, so you were never in any danger whatsoever.

Best app ever

Seriously, I’ve had this free app since I bought my first iPhone many years ago. It’s never failed through every new iPhone and every update. It now offers many options for purchase to fit just about anyone’s needs. But it’s still totally free for very secure text storage.

I started using this as a text based password saver. I’d enter the website, login and password and save it I to one document. This was way before any of the costly password savers were even available. It’s continues to work.

Now days you can save pictures, files in different formats, just about anything that you need to hide from prying eyes. It’s fast, easy to use, and has the option to sync with your other devices! Including a Mac. I’m not sure about a windows PC, but I’m going to ask their support people who are very fast at answering any questions. They invite ideas to enhance the user experience. Honestly this is one of my top 20 favorite apps. You can purchase Add-ons to fit your needs and they are very reasonable. But it’s perfectly functional by itself, for free.

Thanks guys for a great app I’ve used for about 10 years, give or take.

Well Worth the Money

I have been using this App for 3+ years now and this is an Update Review. This app has become my GO TO App for so many purposes. I maintain a ton of information within the app versus trying to carry or have information in hard copies in many other areas. As of this writing I have in excess of 50 folders in the VAULT (behind Encryption and backed up to iCloud) with thousands of entries. I am not sure what I would do without it. I use it dozens of times per day. Have had contact several times with the developers on issues identified that needed work and all have been addressed within days of my email. CAN NOT RATE THIS APP ANY HIGHER THAN I AM.
