Most Problems Solved! (Updated Review)
Finally basic functionality is restored! Thanks much to anyone involved in fixing it. Seriously. I've removed negative comments directed to PRX for this updated review:
I've been a fan of TAL from age 14 to 28. That's half my life. My first girlfriend and later first breakup were bookended by episodes of TAL. Back then if you wanted to listen to an older show you had to buy it. Or tune in live. I remember taking long drives by myself on Friday nights just to hear the latest episode on the radio. In college I would buy episodes on Audible, burn them one at a time onto CDs and listen all the way home (8 hrs). I really miss those days. What I'm saying is that I've literally grown up listening to Ira. I feel like I know him personally, as weird as that is to say. I am happy technology has advanced to the point where someone in high school or college today could do the same as me without much effort. I love TAL. I think the world is so much better with them than without.
Ira Glass is the Jewish Hugh Grant
If I was a P.O.W. eating rations of food and fearful for my life, one of the top 5 luxuries from home I would be missing is This American Life. The stories, the research, the humor, the ability to make the most mundane of visits to get a newspaper in Paris an EXPERIENCE to remember, the profound ways in which I relate to people of 1,000's of different walks of life because of This American Life, the way in which I pause a lot longer to talk to strangers -that IS This American Life. It's like a passport to another persons world. A First Class pass that makes the listener feel like the story was written just for them to make friends with a pig farmer in the Midwest. I guarantee that there is more peace in the world because of This American Life. Not to mention, Ira is the Jewish Hugh Grant! Get on the big screen Ira and let us swoon! #BrainsAreSexyTime
One star for content
This paid app, unfortunately, does not deliver what it advertises. The content is, indeed, as addictive as it's billed but the app system is truly terrible. It crashes constantly. Once you download an episode, you are unable to play it so you have to delete and stream it over LTE if you are away from wifi. This destroys the purpose of why I bought it. I can't listen in the car or a waiting room without it killing my data. Reading reviews, it seems like this is an ongoing problem that they refuse to fix. I would give five stars if it worked even half of the time, but sadly the reviews below citing 90% fail rates are accurate.
Update: app was fixed and worked great for months. New iOS update and now it won't play episodes or allow me to delete my offline downloads. So annoying.
