I don't understand the accolades...
Why is this game so highly reviewed? I just don't get it. I've been playing 2048 for months and enjoy the game which is free but the in game adds can cause lag when they load so in annoyance I purchased Threes to replace it. I can't say how much I regret that purchase. First while the games do have some similarities they are not the same and game and play is considerably different. That I could live with what really drives me bonkers however is the fact the games no matter how well you do tend to be short and the process to start a new game is slow. First the game slowly adds up your score, Ok. But then after every game it wants you to "sign" your score. What? Am I likely to use a different signature than last time after EVERY game? Not likely and I don't want to be bothered. Anyway so you finally get to start a new game and it lasts all of a few seconds because that is just how the game is then you wait again for your score to SLOWLY add up then you have to sign again then you get to play again. It feels almost like you are spending more time I between games than playing them and I find this VERY annoying. On top of that the game play isn't really that engaging or deep. Anyway I'm going to write it off as a bad purchase.
I hate puzzle games, but this is good
I'm not afraid to admit that I pretty much hate there puzzle game genre. The principal crime of the genre being that most games usually involve learning some simple, repeatable process that you could do in your sleep (and some people do, as seems to happen after playing Tetris). They strip away agency by providing a single most-right answer that is easily arrived at and may or may not result in success. Threes doesn't do this. Threes even has a nice one to one panning gesture that you'll be using as you very deliberately make your next move. You won't know if that was the right move until the game is over and you're weighing the pros and cons of taking risks as you learn what strategies might work for you.
And in case you're reading reviews because you're not sure if this is worth the few bucks vs just getting 2048, 2048 is a garbage game and is a prime example of what I described above as what's wrong with puzzle games.
If you need a mobile game, try this out. Absolutely worth the entry price.
What's so great?
I bought this game for 2 dollars when it was declared the "game of the year". I was really looking forward to it and the reviews are great. However, now I realize that in a way, I paid two dollars for a game very similar to 2048 when I could've just played 2048 instead. I'll say the game is pretty and the sounds are nice. The game is a well made game, no denying it. I just don't see the game as fun. Not at all. It's actually worse, in my opinion, than 2048. Please, if possible, explain how this is worth my 2 dollars when it's basically just 2048 which is free. Also, game of the year? I'll tell you, a dark room, 5 nights at Freddie's, or monument valley would all be better contenders for the game of the year. I just see no redeeming value to this game. I feel like I'm missing some HUGE feature that makes the game great. Please help
