Kudos to Developers
A fun experience with interesting characters, high-quality artwork and graphics, and an intriguing game mechanic. It's a good blend of RPG, strategy, and matching. And I appreciate games that let us play once and just play. I for one am tired of every tiny element in a game coming with a request for cash. Well done. I'm looking forward to future episodes.
I have to amend my review: While I still consider this a 5-star game I have to say I think it's overpriced. This game is short. Really short. Stunningly short. In fact, in terms of length I'd call it more of a Prologue than a first episode. By the time you become really comfortable with the strategy and learn to use the characters in tandem the game is over. I'm happy to support independent developers, but in terms of length this game can't match other $3.99 titles that offer far, far more gameplay.
A rare game that keeps your attention and challenges
It's a fantastic game combining a few genres and a decent story and keeping my attention without gimmicks or anything like that. Great action, solid challenge without becoming to frustrating, and I'm glad to know there's more content on the way for no extra money. I'd recommend this game to almost anyone because of all the different games it feeds off of. Linking them in a row is so satisfying, and some of the powers are just fun to use.
The only let down was the tech tree. I'd like to have seen more substantial purchases there. It rarely feels like I really upgraded my character all that much. Something like Borderlands where I can make my character into a special sub class with unique abilities would have added a lot of depth and replay value.
Overall it's a game that I've beaten and I'm going back to get all the tokens on the completed levels. I'm not usually a completionist. I'm someone who buys a lot of games only to delete them in a couple days. This one is sticking around. Thanks for the experience, devs.
What a wonderful game
This is an incredibly well-made game. The combination of the matching puzzle with tile-based strategy works exceptionally well. It yields a fairly deep strategy experience that rewards movement and forward thinking. And there's even a narrative explanation for it!
The character development also ramps up nicely alongside player skill. By the end of the episode I was chaining big movements with devastating attacks. Very satisfying.
I'm not a huge fan of the art style and the exposition left a little to be desired, but that doesn't stop me from giving this game 5 stars. An absolute must-play for any strategy or puzzle gamer with an iPhone.
