It’s the best of the timers…not sure why some of the poor ratings.

I tried all of the top five apps in this category but none of them come close to Tictoc. I use the app to time sessions when I’m providing end-user customer support for a software app to keep track of my actual hours worked. It’s so easy to use, stays out of the way unless needed, easily displays when it’s running in the Menu Bar so you don’t forget it, but if you do, you can set reminders that you’ve been idle and it will let you know. Also, the sessions are easily modified in case you forget to turn it on, etc. Also, contrary to some apps, everything in the interface is large enough font that you can easily see it. Great app!

CSV Export Not Compatible with Excel Time Functions

Though this is a great menu bar task timer, the CSV export puts duration in values that Excel cannot work with (e.g. 2h 22m) rather than ones it can work with (e.g. 02:22:00) and this ultimately undermines its value if hours need to be tracked and exported for business purposes. Though the developers said they would consider this update for a future release, it's been four months and no update.

Also, this does not allow you to track tasks within a project (unless you use the Comment field). I have downloaded a number of simple task timers and, even though I like Tic Toc's UI the most, at least Chronos 1) Exports CSVs that can immediately be used by Excel functions and 2) Allows you to create a Project, Task, and have a Comments field. It's not a menu bar app (I wish it was), but by offering these minor features, it's far more useful.

Very Handy, Needs Yosemite Dark Mode Support

I use this app every day and I love it’s simplicity. I’ve looked thoroughly for an app that let’s me easily keep time on different jobs and tasks without having to switch to cmd-tab to another application. This one fits the bill perfectly. Exporting data is very convenient.

It does need support for Yosemite’s dark mode. The icon basically disappears if you enable that interface mode in OS X.

The other thing that would be nice is the ability to set when the week starts. Every Monday my total time resets, which is not when I need it to.
