Timing is the best way to keep track of the time you spend with your Mac. Find out where your time goes - without ever having to start a timer again!
Timing automatically tracks which documents you are editing, which applications you use, and the domains of the websites you visit. You'll never have to worry about forgetting to start or stop a timer again - there are none! It's all done in the background!
After tracking, just drag and drop activities into projects. Some general categories like "Web Browsing", "Office" and "Games" have already been prepared for you, but you can customize them any way you like!
Review this week's activities with just one click! Sophisticated graphs show you how you spent your time each day and which projects consumed most of your time.
Timing will automatically suspend tracking after a configurable time of inactivity (150 seconds by default). It will resume as soon as you return to the computer.
Some of the applications supported by Timing:
- Chrome & Chromium
- MS Office
- Parallels Desktop (tracks app name and window title of Windows apps in Coherence mode)
- TextWrangler & BBEdit
- Smultron & Fraise
- MacVim & AquaMacs
- QuickTime Player
- VLC Player
And many more! Check the list at http://timingapp.com/faq.php for a more extensive list of compatible applications.
REVIEWS BY OUR USERS
"Ive just downloaded Timing again. After trailing numerous other apps that all charge you monthly, I just wasnt getting anything materially better (in most cases it was worse) functionality. Timing was the first and now hopefully the last."
"This app is great! I’ve been looking into time tracking apps to organize my day (but that work by tracking the actual activity on the computer, because I’ll always forget launching and stopping a manual timer) – and this one is by far the cheapest. As far as I can tell, it works amazingly! I especially like the ability to track computer idle time (and assign it to a project upon return), because these usually coincide with moments when mommy duties keep me from my Phd. I might actually graduate on time now! Thanks!!"
"Finally a time tracking app that does not make me tell it when I am going to start working on something. It allows me to sort it all out later. I am a new user, but alreday I can tell this is so different from all the other ones I have tried. Even though it does not track every app I use, it still records them in a way that I can Identify them and get my time int the correct job.
- I've been working so hard lately - nice to know now I can prove it.
Worth every penny! Thank You!"
"Tells you exactly how you spent your day. With a small amount of time organising activities into different categories, you can see exactly where your day went. Maybe you spent 8 hours at the office - but did you actually spend 8 hours working?? This software tells you exactly how much time was spent on what on your mac.
Highly recommended. The only thing they might want to improve upon is a tour at the beginning to get the most out of the product - it feels a lot like it’s left to the user to figure out the most powerful way to use the product."
"This App is a Life Saver"
"The Best Timing App Ever Made! I never liked having to remember to start the timer or add up all the time I have spent on a project. This app automatically times everything.
- Worth the price.
- You can color code your activities (programs)
- You can hide activities you don’t wan’t tracked
- Custom charting
- Private Mode available
- Create Custom Activities (Show certain program activities within)
Overall, it’s an amazing timing utility and every business or freelancer who needs to time their activity this is a must!"

Thanks for reading these release notes ;-) You'd do me a huge favor by leaving a positive review on the Mac App Store! If you already posted one for an older version of Timing, please submit it again to make sure that it shows up for the latest version. A good App Store rating is extremely important to me :-)

This App is a Life Saver
I am a freelance web and graphic designer. I spend the day hopping back and forth between projects and my projects are scattered throughout several different files, folders and applications. I’m often under-charging clients because I don’t want to charge them for more time than I’ve actually spent on a project, and I’m only going on my own estimates. I’ve never been able to use apps with a start and stop timer, and I’ve had minimal happiness with other timing apps…. Enter Timing….
Wow! I can’t get over much time this saves me. I don’t have to set anything up before I begin working on a project. I can FINISH a project and take less than 1 minute (after it’s completed) to drag all the specified folder and files and websites into the Timing project and Wham! I have an accurate total number of hours spent actively working on the project. I can also set up the Timing project before I begin and track my time really easily as I go along. Other apps required me to add time from different apps accross several different days. With Timing, It’s as simple as clicking my project, setting a date range and viewing my total time! I can also select a project and date range and see how much time I spent each day or each week.
Suffice it to say that this will be my favorite app for quite some time! I look forward to some updates and feature additions that will make it an even more excellent app. There is nothing that compares to Timing as far as I’ve found.
I might actually graduate on time!

As far as improvements – one great addition would be the ability to sort entries by calendar time, as I think that would make sorting more simple. I’m hopeful that this will be added in a future update.
Very good time tracking
This app has saved me many times. It runs in the background and keeps track of what I do. Then when I need to create time records for clients or projects and I can’t remember what I did, Timing provides a very helpful record of what was opened, which files I worked on and for how long.
This app has paid for itself many times by reminding me to log hours I had forgotten. If you need to keep hourly records for clients and projects this is really helpful.
The interface takes a little while to understand but believe me all your time recording is there.
