Had allot of Luck! Surprisingly!
27 yo male here. I've been on tinder off/on for the last several years, and surprisingly I've had allot of luck on there! I think it's mainly because everyone has exceedingly low when it comes to meeting people, and just dating in the broad scheme of things have expectations cause let's face it, whenever you hear somebody talking about Tinder what do you generally you think of meaningless hookups, FWB, that sorta thing, right? Exactly. So because of that hardly puts any effort into it and it's just a whatever happens, happens sort of thing. I've tried several other sites like POF which ironically enough has been more of a hookup site than anything else. I've been seeing my girl now for about a few weeks now, and before her I met my ex fiancé of here too. So that's just one of a few long term relationships I've had off here. Super simple to use too! Which is always nice lol if you like someone swipe right, and if you don't swipe left. Pretty straightforward. And if you're a picky dater like me then I highly recommend you subscribe to the membership! Let's you choose what area you'll be swiping in plus you get unlimited swipes which is always a pleasant bonus. Anyways, hope that helps y'all out! Great app! A+++!
Makes no sense
Wayyyy too many obviously fake accounts (when they are listed as, say, 27, but in their profile they say they are “actually 20”). Wayyy too many profiles from people living in different states. A LOT of people from nyc come up in my feed. Why? I’m not even in that general region of the country. I set my radius to 20 miles. I read somewhere that it was because they may have come to where I live and opened their app. But they are probably gone now. It happened to me in another state. I opened the app because I was curious, and now, MONTHS after returning home I’m still seeing people from that region come up. STOP THIS. Why do the settings exist if you're just gonna ignore them? I’m not interested in chatting with a globe trotter who happened to be in town three weeks ago. I’m looking for LOVE, people! If I want to meet people from “wherever”, I’ll set my location preference accordingly. Oh and btw it randomly deletes your matches. I got notifications that I got a match, and that the person sent me a few messages. Open my phone, go to the app, no new messages, no new matches. Did some googling, turns out it’s a common occurrence and has been happening for years. Not good, not even close.
Technically excellent, mostly fun and you may even meet a real person
First and foremost, Tinder is pretty good fun. It’s a mindless game where you swipe left or right with a bit of investigation and then something you get rewarded with a match. The animation is fantastic, it’s works like it’s supposed to and the little quotes encouraging you to chat are charming.
As a vehicle for meeting someone, it’s less effective. Conversations rarely last more than a couple back and forths and, at least as a gay man in Washington, DC, whenever I actually try to meet someone for a coffee, the line suddenly goes dead. It’s as if this game is fun until it requires some actual in person exchange which drives too much commitment.
Hookup apps are more immediate - so actually meeting people is more likely. Dating apps have more committed people so dates happen there too. I’ve found tinder ton he an in between.
Some wishes - being able to sync with google calendar and actually make dates. So - tinder is better at facilitating in person. There are several free tools out there that let you send out your calendar. Wish I could do that in the app.
I love that you can see Instagram and Facebook. At least then when I see the person in the real world, I can reference tinder - so it’s good for that.
So - mostly fun, just don’t expect to find a mate.
