Minor bug fixes
I have the 2013 reboot game and after beating it I was curious about the older tomb raider games. Luckily TR 1 and 2 are both on the App Store for a great price. I decided to start with this one. I'm currently on level 7 (Palace Midas), and I love this game so much. My only complaint is with the controls. Yes, they do take some getting used to. But the thing is, there are many timed puzzles, and the controls make them difficult to complete. Sometimes Lara walks when the walk button is disabled, and sometimes her jumps are delayed. Because of that it took me awhile to do the timed door puzzle in Colosseum (another reviewer had trouble with this part). Now, I'm stuck at the fire puzzle in one of the doors of Palace Midas. You have 10 seconds to jump 5 blocks to the other side before the fires start burning again. But with the delayed jumping, need to constantly move the camera, and the controls in general, the farthest I've gotten was to the 3rd block. It would have been great if the timer was extended, I guess they really didn't fumble with the game at all! Overall this is a great game as long as you have the patience I don't have. :)
Great port & textures, some bugs
Absolutely love this game. And because I've played it so much on PS1, the controls were easier for me to get used to. (But it is a challenge for most!) And the HD textures are fantastic.
My only complaint is a glaring bug that makes it near impossible to play. The controls will often enable on their own. A few examples: (1) the grab button gets "stuck" when you're shimmying down a wall and need to let go, but can't because the game thinks you're still holding the grab button. (2) sometimes Lara will walk or take a small step back instead of running forward or jumping backward. This proves frustrating when you're battling an enemy. (3) I can't move blocks because of the grab button issue, but it seems to happen all the time in this instance. Lara just gets stuck in a grabbing stance but you can't actually get her to pull or push it.
I've noticed all these bugs on both iPhone and iPad versions. Please fix! I love playing this when I'm away from home!
Music won't play and directional control issues.
The game is great, it takes me back to my childhood. I would rate 5 stars except I have two major problems with the game that many other players are experiencing. First off is the music. All I'm getting are in game sound effects and some of the background noise from the very first level all throughout the game. Would really like if this issue were corrected to bring back that old game experience.
Second issue I'm having is with the controls. The directional controls are awful, both in size and in the layout. This game would perform way better with a digital joystick than with the current directional pad. The game has become an unnecessary challenge due to the directional pad being so faulty. I hope this issue will be fixed in the near future. Also the option to increase the size of the controls would be great too.
