Works... After A While
At first, the app crashed or would get stuck during the loading process. I tried turning my phone off and on again (not sure that did anything) and then a couple of tries after I did, I opened the app, walked away from the phone and came back after a few minutes and it had loaded.
The app design isn't something TC should be proud of (feels like iOS 3), but the TonePrint concept is really cool and it actually worked. So, the three stars are the middle ground between a pretty crappy app, and a super cool integration of technology into pretty affordable pedals.
There’s a lot of focus on what this app doesn’t do, but not much on what it does. The new Flashback2 delay out of the box sounds great. So I listen to samples online from favorite artists like Steve Morse, select one on my iPhone, and download it to the pedal through my guitar pickup. It’s all free and for me worked perfectly.
No, the software is not a work of art, but the user-base on something like this is tiny compared to a game. So the software is utilitarian.
Kudos to TC Electronic for a great and innovative product.
Genius TonePrint Technology Deserves a Decent App
TC Electronic pedals are affordable and yet amazing at any price. And being able to tweak and choose among all these different presets by “beaming” settings through your pickups is a brilliant innovation.
But this app is terrible. It takes tens of seconds, sometimes minutes, to load. Imagine being between songs (or sets) and wanting to change tones without a good internet connection. This is unforgivable. Also the app doesn’t feel like a proper iOS app. Menus are clunky, they don’t respond to a swipe from left, and the overall UI design is very 1990s.
Please invest in getting it right for version 4. This amazing innovation deserves a world class app, not this mess. Thank you TC!
