Touch Mouse by Logitech turns your iPhone or iPod touch into a wireless trackpad and keyboard for your computer.
Do you connect your computer to your TV? Touch Mouse is the perfect solution for when you want to stay in control from the comfort of your couch. Point, click, scroll and type in any application—on a Mac or a PC.
Touch Mouse works over Wi-Fi, so you can use it anywhere in the house. And to make typing easier, text is displayed on the screen of your iPhone or iPod touch as you type, so you can see what you’re doing without having to continually look up and down.
- Multi-touch trackpad with option for two or three buttons
- Two-finger scrolling
- Keyboard with modifier keys
- On-screen text display while typing
- Show or hide the keyboard at any time
- Trackpad and keyboard are available in landscape and portrait modes
To make Touch Mouse work, you will need to download the Touch Mouse Server software from www.logitech.com/touchmouse and install it on your Mac or PC. This software enables the Touch Mouse app on your iPhone or iPod touch to find your computer and communicate with it.
- Mac with OS X 10.5 or higher
- PC with Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7
- Computer and iPhone or iPod touch must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network
- Touch Mouse Server software must be installed and running on the computer you want to control
Ultimate HTPC companion
I've been searching around for the best remote control solution for my HTPC. As much as I don't want to plug-in a keyboard/mouse to my Vista HTPC, there are times that I still need them. I've been using Gyration Media Center remote in conjunction with Vista's on-screen keyboard. Even with applications like XBMC or boxee, there's no denying that keyboard/mouse are still needed. With this app, I can simply use my iPod Touch. Simpler to use as it simply emulate the keyboard and mouse movements, and less devices lying around. Even better for a Mac mini, as this app is much more functional than the overly simplistic Apple remote. Of course, the best part, is that it's free (both the server software for Windows and Mac, and this app). Setup couldn't be easier. Simply install the server software on the PC/Mac, install the app on your iPhone/iPod Touch, run the app, pick the computer that you want to control, and that's it. No need to setup ports or IP addresses (unlike the boxee or XBMC remote apps). Oh, did I mention that it's free? And no, you don't need to purchase any Logitech products to use this. 5 stars!
Great app from logitech, still missing something though.
I was excited about this app from the moment that I read about it, I have tried the other free solutions and they all have left me wanting whether it be snappier response times or easier setup. With Touch Mouse I am thoroughly impressed by the response time and the connection capabilities of this app. I have installed and tested this on both a Windows XP machine on ethernet and a Mac OS X 10.6 machine on wireless, both responded as if there were a physical connection to the machine showing barely any signs of lag. There were the occasional hiccups but that is to be expected, but after getting used to woking with the device as a mousepad it felt natural. The addition of a keyboard makes this application even better than just a standard external wifi trackpad. The only qualm that I have with this app is the lack of authentication between the client and the server, being in a business environment security is always a concern for me. Bottom line though this is an amazing 1.0 for an idea that has been around for awhile in the app store.
In this apps current version 1.0 I give this app a 5 star rating. It works like it's supposed to and works well. I don't have my pc hooked up to my tv but I have been using my iPhone as the mouse for my desktop pc and I enjoy using it a lot.
If the developer is open to suggestions for improvement, I'd suggest making an option in the Settings screen to turn on or off the ability to tap in the tracking area as a mouse click so you have to tap the left, middle, or right icons to click. Sometimes I'll be moving my finger around on the tracking area and when I lift my finger off or accidently retouch my finger on it, it registers as me clicking the mouse when I don't intend for it too. Make it so we have to click the mouse buttons to register as a mouse click if we need that ability by making it an option.
2nd, how about the ability to click and drag? Maybe a icon down at the bottom next to the keyboard icon that registers as holding down the left mouse button while you move your finger to the tracking area to move things around, like your files, desktop icons, etc. Then to turn it off simply press the left button icon again. I saw the Dragging option in the settings but I don't know how that works but I know it didn't work for me as a traditional mouse click and drag.
This app is very nice however, works great, and it's awesome that it is free. Good job Logitech !!!
