Here's the deal...
I got this app to remove an object from a photo I took at a wedding. Unfortunately it did not work and turned my photo into a smudged, unidentifiable mess.
What this app does is fill in what you removed by cloning it with surrounding pixels. In my case, people were surrounding the object I needed to remove. So the result was several hilarious clones of the person that was near the object I was attempting to remove.
In other photos I tried to remove an object and hair was cloned. In another the door or the couch was cloned. And so on.
The only successful objects that looked decent were photos that had grass or sky where the object was in the open and nothing was surrounding it. For example I removed a flower in one photo and it looked fairly seamless. In another photo I removed a bird from the sky. The grass/sky was easily filled in/cloned after the object was removed only because of the similarity of the surrounding pixels.
I have used Photoshop for years so I am familiar using all of these tools. If you have plain, simple backgrounds with similar, surrounding pixels that have an object/words you want to remove, this app may work okay for that purpose. Otherwise I can't recommend it.
Great app... sometimes
TouchRetouch is great when it works. However, due to algorithm limitations, there are many instances where the app creates disappointing results. As long as you have a simple background, then this app can work wonders!
Developers, please add the ability to retain metadata such as location when saving the image. Also, iPad support would be awesome! I'll give this app 4 stars if the developers add iPad support.
If you need to remove objects from an image with a simple background, then TouchRetouch is great. If the background is complex, then don't expect great results. Once you understand the above limitations, then you'll know it's great to finally have an app with this functionality on iOS!
Wow! Amazing Update-Incredible App
This is easily one of the best photo apps and a must have for anyone who edits photos on an iOS device. It was great before and I used it constantly, I do a good deal of selling high end vintage cameras and watches on eBay, but this update is absolutely brilliant. I can remember throwing piles of money at desktop software that was less capable and this program has just thrown me over the edge with happiness. Kudos to the developers! This team has put together a valuable tool and standout product in the vast sea of photo apps.
