What's New

Version 4.3.4

Two truths and a lie, Transit edition:

1. We got rid of a bug where our British GPS robot “Daniel” started speaking random garbage in your ear.

2. We got rid of a bug where departures were disappearing from our schedule view like a David Blaine trick gone horribly wrong.

3. New York bagels are better than Montreal bagels.

Spot the lie? Tweet your best guess to @transitapp. And don’t forget to rate us five stars—because while our release notes may only be 66.66666% true, when it comes to transit times, we’re much, much better.

Great app, heavy GPS usage

Ann O Nymous

This app is very good, with a great UI and features, along with reliable tracking for every kind of public transportation in NYC. I’ve been using it for a few years and have seen it improve a lot, and I recommend it to a lot of friends and coworkers.

My only issue is that I use Transit mainly for bus service, using the GO! feature. I love the feature, but it doesn’t stop using GPS until I go back into Transit and tell it to stop using GO! to track me. This happens whether I set a destination stop or not, and even when I’ve walked blocks away from any bus stops. I’ve taken my phone out of my pocket even 20-30 minutes after getting off the bus, only to see the blue banner at the top telling me that Transit is still using my location.

While I don’t really like what that might mean for tracking users, my main concern is the battery drain - which is already usually around 10% for a 20 minute bus ride. I keep using the feature because I like the idea of helping others out via crowdsourcing, but this is definitely a big negative aspect to doing so. Hope it can be changed in the future!

Was great

Note: it WAS great. I could see where the bus was on a map to get a better idea of how far it was and how much time I had to get to my next stop since I jump from bus to bus. Now it won't show up after having this update for a few days on either bus. All I see is how long it'll take to get to my stop. I don’t know if this is a bug or if it's intentional, but please bring it back. It was very useful and was probably the most used feature of the app. Thanks!

Update 10/26:
Responding to the developers, I'm in Louisville, CO and bus route 228 was missing along with multiple instances of route FF1 and FF2. I tried again and the bus appeared on the map right before my stop. So I realized it was actually not removed but the map feature failed intermittently where the bus shows up on the map at times, but other times the map's empty. It still showed their route (although it was grayed out), but the bus icon showing where they were was gone. I thought it had been taken out entirely which is why I was unhappy but if it's a bug then there is hope!

I used the “arrive by” to see when I should leave for WORK! & it told me the bus would arrive at 10:05pm however at 9:40pm when I checked back to see how far the bus was it had left at 9:35pm with the next bus coming at 10:30pm making me super late for work. Very aggravating & this is NOT the 1st time. There have been many occasions where it was telling me the bus was coming at a certain time & the bus had either left or didn’t come at that time. It will say the bus is 5 mins away & after 5 mins it will say the bus is 15-30 mins away. Buses will disappear off the gps map & be further away than they were before. I waited for a bus for over 40 mins one time.

After writing this review & being upset that I missed the bus THAT THE APP SAID I MISSED at 10:07 bc it said the bus came at 9:30 i go back to the app the track the next bus & it says the bus is one stop away from me it was 10:03 at this time I hurry to try to catch it only to see that it is already pulling off. IT IS VERY FUSTRATING TO BE SEEING THAT THE BUS CAME ALRWADY WHEN IT NEVER CAME IT WAS STILL COMING AT 10:07 SMH I used to tell ppl about this app but i am now going to look for a different one I hate this app.
