Announcing traxPad for the iPad: a multitouch mixing app designed for the professional DJ. Unlike other DJ apps, traxPad plugs into a DJ mixer and takes the place of a turntable or CDJ. It’s fast and stable enough to use at a club with virtually no lag or interruptions in sound.
For the experienced DJ, traxPad is intuitive and easy to use. While the track plays, you can use multitouch movements to control the audio waveform. Slide two or more fingers to adjust the track speed; then use one finger to nudge the speed temporarily (similar to nudging a record or jog wheel).
So far, traxPad has gathered a small but rabid following. “It’s the only DJ app I can rely on for gigs.” remarks Alexander Azzi, aka Atroa, a touring dubstep DJ and producer. “traxPad is stable and sounds great on a big system. There’s almost no lag when I load and manipulate tracks, unlike other DJ apps that I’ve tried.”

Minor cosmetic and stability fixes.
The best DJ Deck prototype
After discovering traxpad I decided to pack up my SL 1200s unplugged that Serato box and and throw caution into the wind. I bought two more iPads (one 1st gen, and one new 3rd gen to go with my original 1st gen. loaded a Serato playlist to iTunes, synced all three units, and wa la ... 3 iPads, a DJM800 mixer, and a optimistic DJ. My conclusion...Amazing app that allows you to access your iTunes library sort by name beats per minute, and so on. Intuitive design for nudging forward and back, along with changing bpm, but no master pitch lock.1 of the three ex filter is decent.... My complaint is you can set a cue point, but does not save for the next time you load track. If you hit the home button it stops the song, on top of that ejects the song that was playing. The delay and reverb are massively glitchy/buggy I sent a message to the developer but no response, still hopeful to hear back, would love to help in anyway to get this project rolling. With a little more work this could outdo CDJs and other media controllers alike at a fraction of the cost. The first few days I had the occasional crash while loading a song on both the 1st gen and 3rd gen iPad, but after turning on airplane mode ...clearing programs before starting session, all has been well!
all in all the app is the best out there for a working DJ
Love the bare bones approach, but Please please please ....saved cue points!! Please!!
5 Stars last year, now down to 3. Update PLEASE!!!
This app is so far ahead of the competition in terms of allowing a DJ to really perform. True gesture-based control over the virtual deck is far better for me (a vinyl/CDJ user for years) than the tiny button-mashing virtual interfaces that other DJ apps bring to iOS. There's no buried functionality, and the visual effect of two iPads running Traxpad is super cool.
HOWEVER, it's been over a year since the last update. The audio engine is audibly glitchy and is outclassed by the cheapest iOS apps, the delay and reverb filters sound rather terrible, the looping doesn't work well, and you can't save cue points. Address these, and the app floats back to the top. Obviously I'd love other features, but I know this is a one-man operation. I don't another DJ-in-a-box, just a really great virtual deck. We're almost there.
In the mean time I find myself more often drawn to using a particular iPhone DJ app which has a single-deck mode just because it sounds better, not because it works better. Please update!
