Triglotta - The Book of Concord
By Joyful Games
Open iTunes to buy and download apps.
The app lists The Symbols of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. After selecting a symbol, the individual articles that make up the writing are listed and can be selected for reading.
The text used for the app is in the public domain and can be found at http://www.lcms.org/graphics/assets/media/LCMS/TrigBOC.pdf
The app works in both portrait and landscape modes to suit the users preferred reading style.
Really basic, but you can't beat the price
The Triglotta edition of the Book of Concord has been available as an ePub for quite a while, but it was always quite difficult to find a specific part of the Lutheran Confessions, since it didn't have the chapters divided in the right places. Now, Joyful Games has made the text of the Lutheran Confessions accessible by confession and article. That's all there is to it. The app does not have a search function; it does not remember where you were last time upon launch. Also, in the Smalcald Articles, where there are many articles beneath the "part" level, the app does not list those for you--you have to scroll through long documents. You also can't set bookmarks or make notes.
I still think the best way to read the Book of Concord on iOS would be to have an ePub correctly divided into chapters. Then any of the reader programs could apply their powerful set of features to this great text. But until that happens, this basic app is probably the best we can do. And you certainly can't beat the price.
Has SO MUCH potential but falling flat
The only thing this app does to improve upon the pdf version of the BoC is that the app has menus to navigate.
What could make it better?
-Changable text size
-Links to Bible verse citations
-A schedule of daily BoC readings so as to read it for a full year (i don't just mean a reading list for every day but rather have the app have the appropriate section ready to read every day as a separate menu selection and not having you go back to the whole text)
As far as I know, all my suggestions don't violate any copyright so it should only cost the time for the app developers to actually implement this. If the comment history tells me anything, these changes won't happen.
A treat for Lutherans!
Can it finally be? The Lutheran confessions as an app? And free?
I use the confessions for devotional reading; they remind me of the truths that sustain my faith. Thank you so much for putting this out!
