Beware the routing
I had high hopes for this app, but have had numerous issues. We travel in a 40’ fifth wheel pulled with a long bed dually. Our rig is 13’ 6” tall and 101 inches wide. We have had the following issues 1. The navigation freezes and constantly shows .1 miles to the next turn. It has to be restarted so it will update. 2. The navigation is often slow and lags behind your actual location. It has been up to a quarter mile behind the turn. 3. It will route you to restricted low clearances, most recently it wanted to route me to a park entrance under a railroad overpass that was 12’ 10”, even though there was another entrance with no height restrictions. Luckily the overpass was clearly marked. 4. Searching by location can lead you to the wrong location. Recently, I searched by place name- the name appeared in the selection. It actually lead to a rural road 6 miles from the actual location. The road had a similar name to the place name. This App has promise but was a no go for use with our rig.
Not great for city use
This may be great for OTR guys, but it has a tough time navigating in a big city.
First- it doesn’t always automatically re-route when you have to detour due to construction/accident/other road closures. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t. Just pay attention when you intentionally go off its planned route.
Second- I’ve had it plan some pretty strange routes from point-to-point in the city. The roads are truck legal, yes- BUT there are safer and easier ways around that are less direct. It should be set up to stay on “arterial” or main roads whenever possible to avoid driving down congested side streets that you can easily avoid.
It’s not a bad app, but with some fine tuning it could be great! There’s nothing that’s going to make trucking a walk in the park, but this is a step in the right direction.
App needs work
Firstly, it will put u on roads that clearly say no trucks. I also had one instance where it sent me down a route with a low bridge. And then I notice in GPS mode that it only stays in that mode for so long before it goes blank. It will show you what route to take but the guidance part of it such as what road to turn on next, goes away, so you have to restart the GPS.
Looking forward to updates especially alternate route options. Another thing would be the option to submit updates such as the instance I had with the low bridge so that they are aware and it can be reviewed and corrected on the GPS. (Can we do that already?)
The app has high moments but it hasn’t been very dependable thus far. Just a decent guide to use.
