TunesBar+ is a remote control for iTunes that sits in your menu bar giving you a quick look at what track, artist and album is currently playing in iTunes.

On Yosemite, TunesBar+ can be added as a widget to the Today section
Using the drop down window you can play/pause, skip tracks, skip to other tracks in the same album and control the volume of iTunes.

No longer works for what’s actually playing

Tunesbar worked OK when I installed it. It apparently hasn’t been updated in a while, and it’s now pretty much functionless — no matter what’s playing, it usually displays “Nothing Playing.” The “Pause” and “next song” controls work, but iti shows nothing in the menu bar, even for songs and albums that have been added to “My Music” through an Apple Music subscription. Perhaps it still works for songs that have been ripped to the HD, but it shows noting for streaming music played through iTunes, not even when it’s been added to “My Music.” This makes the app essentially worthless to a user like me who stores little of his music directly on his Mac. If it gets an upgrade, I’d love to go back to using it.

Doesn’t work with iTunes Radio

I downloaded this app with the intention of using it to check the name of the currently playing iTunes Radio track in the Today View but for some reason it displays (null)(null) instead. The app works fine for library music, so why not for iTunes Radio? Also, the developer has no support channels whatsoever, no email, no twitter, nothing.

Good - needs tweaks

in dark mode, text turns blue after engaging the controls - would be nice to fix that
also needs preferences - show album/artist/song, scroll, don’t scroll
