Experience as a new Turo host

I joined the Turo family as a host in Sept. 2018 and my experience with the company has been amazing for a few reasons. One, I like the online chat for assistance. I’ve never had to wait long, I have never been disconnected, it was quick and the chat reps are friendly. Second. The messaging system thru the app is great. I like that it can be used as a trail of any changes. This saved me as my first couple of experiences were not so great, but this was due to renters not knowing how Turo works. Just a few suggestions for the app to make it greater. One, I wish there was an easy way for renters to edit info. Today I had a booking to pick up at 7 but they asked if o could pick them at 730. Both I and the renter could not change it, I was concerned it would look like I was late. Last thing. I noticed if I am going thru the process of checking in, if I back out to see a new message, I have to start the entire check in process again. I wish it would save the information so we can just move on easily. Actually one last thing. Many of my renters just didn’t know how Turo works. Turo does have information for them but I think it needs to be done different. Maybe have a section when the renters book that there is a checklist of what to expect and have them mark each one individually then hit submit. This would force them to really have to read stuff.

1st time user, great experience!

Booked a car about a week before my arrival on the other side of the country. I flew into LAX, and the car owner sent their employee and a van to pick me up, as their location was 15 mins away. Kept in good communication with me, and the car was washed and gassed up, ready for me. Owner was there and went over features of the car (BMW M3, competition package). He took about 15 pictures of the car, all the way around, to show condition. They were uploaded to the app. Told me to feel free to upload pics if there were damaged areas I noticed. Despite it being a pricey car, the owner seemed very chill, and says that he knows it’s a rental (meaning there may be flaws, and isn’t super anal about little things). That eased my mind. Your results may differ. Car performed flawlessly. He checked in with me once to confirm drop off time, as it was a nighttime drop off, and I still needed the ride back to LAX for a red eye. Accommodations were made. The return was simple. Went over the car, which took less than a minute. Gas and mileage was good, as well as the condition. I was on my way to LAX quickly. Didn’t know what to expect when I booked the rental, and hoped for the best. Honestly, it couldn’t have gotten any better. Will definitely use Turo again. My advice would be to pick a renter with a lot of good feedback. Mine had a lot.

Not the best in smaller cities

Turo seems to be best if you are going to be using the platform in a larger city or near an airport that has more options. I was looking to book a trip in my home town to travel to a funeral locate about 250 miles away. Using the app to book my trip was user friendly and rather simple to do, however my host was unresponsive. I contacted my host each day for my upcoming trip however no response. I contacted Turo directly and their suggested solutions guided me to wait for at least 3 days, which I did and I was instructed to wait another hour for them to reach out to the host. All reasonable. After about 1 hour and 15 mins the host cancelled my trip less than 24 hours prior to my scheduled trip. THIS IS NOT TURO’s FAULT. My issue is with the resolution, like I said I am traveling for a funeral, and booking a trip in less than 24 hours for the same timeframe with Turo or any other traditional rental company proved to be impossible. I am now stuck waiting 8 hours later to start my trip. My suggestion, partner with your super hosts or a major rental company so your guests can have an worry-free booking option that may cost a bit more but will give certainty that all your customers will always have a safety net in case a host backs out. Maybe test in in your smaller cities. I will say I thanks to Clark and Dan who helped me as early as 11 and said with me to nearly 10, they did everything in their capabilities to assist.
