Worst client I’ve ever used, for ANYTHING
And I’ve used a lot over the years. Just for a start, Twitter went to 280 characters a month ago—but this app hasn’t been updated since MAY. The IOS apps were updated immediately. Tweetbot was updated immediately. But this piece of garbage just hangs here like a gym sock on a shower rod. It doesn’t deserve the one star I’m forced to give it.
The Mac client seems to be the bastard child of Twitter development. It’s amazingly buggy, so when each new release (whenever they get around to them) says it contains bug fixes, have a good laugh and don’t get your hopes up, because even if they’ve fixed some, I guarantee they’ve added exciting *new ones*. It’s also an unbelievable memory hog. I don’t know who works on this app, but I picture either a team of monkeys with keyboards hoping to produce Hamlet, or one lone developer who’s given five minutes every week to work on this app—if that.
It’s almost as if they want you to buy someone else’s client, because they certainly can’t expect you to use this one.
What happened to QC?
I updated to this when they blocked my previous version from connecting to this service. This is the most buggy piece of software from a major company I’ve ever seen. Just to give two examples of things that used to work but no longer work: If my laptop is off the Internet for more than an hour (say on a plane or a train) the client crashes. Also several times a week it produces a spurious message saying there are too many clients connected and do I want stop live updates (which is a pain if you have 3+ twitter handles). As a former software manager, I kept expecting that these obvious bugs would get corrected quickly, and am shocked that there have been no updates for six months. Do these people even know what they’re doing?
DM performance seems to be better now, although I admittedly don't use this app as much because Twitter has done such a terrible job in the past at fixing all the problems they've introduced to it.
The main problems with this version are:
A. The menu bar icon no longer highlights at all, even though its enabled in the settings.
B. All mentioned usernames are no longer displayed in the tweets in the Timeline, nor when replying. Instead they are relegated to "@someone and x others", making it a hassle and waste of time having to click through a reply chain just to find out who all the people in the message are.
