A minimalist puzzler through and through, TwoDots—the single-player sequel to Dots—delivers accessible and satisfying challenges by the bucketful. While its style and sound mirror the unvarnished nature of its puzzles, its seemingly simple exterior hides a compelling depth that’ll keep you coming back for more.

keys will kill

I used to really love this game. Absolutely obsessed. It has great colors and sound and really, felt like it calmed me down when I had anxiety attacks. I used to be all caught up on levels until about four updates ago and just got burnt out because of all the keys! Before, I’d stock up on erasers, color bursts, and shufflers to use for the weekly treasure hunts (which I DO still play and haven’t missed one!), but now it’s rare for me to get anything but keys. And sadly, keys can only getcha booster boxes, an hour of infinite lives, or an extra life. When I play the board, I get everything cleared and have plenty of moves left to get just one thing m, but never get squares or don’t have enough little moves to clear it. It’s pesky and there’s no other way without spending money for these power ups or extra moves.
A little while ago, Two Dots sent out a survey and asked what they can improve on. My boyfriend is one of those peoples who wanted to participate in past treasure hunts he didn’t complete. Two Dots did make this happen, so props to them, but he’s disappointed they’re shorter in time than regular treasure hunts and they change weekly — he wanted to do them with a tap of a button, like a list of some sort.
I love Two Dots’s team on social media and how they are very responsive to tweets and little glitches, but overall, just really burnt out on what used to be a super fun game. From, someone who has been playing from the absolute beginning.

Crying in the Dark

Keys

I've been playing this game almost since when it first came out. I have always loved everything about it: the gorgeous aesthetics, the ever-evolving game mechanics, and especially how there are so many ways to get power-ups without having to buy them. In the age of micro transactions, I've really appreciated that Two Dots offers several ways to "earn" power ups instead of demanding your money.

But I have to say, I really dislike the key aspect that was introduced this winter. Instead of winning a power up or an actual booster box, I'm left with a fraction of a box or an hour of infinite lives (which is useless to those of us who play Two Dots in the few minutes we can find throughout the day). It's frustrating that for the same amount of progress in an expedition that would have previously granted me a power up, now I just have keys...which aren't even enough for a booster box...which was already much easier to come by than a power up anyway!!

This is the first time in about two years that I've been disappointed in this game. I thought the keys were interesting as a temporary holiday special, but I really dislike that they've stuck around. What used to be a fun, engaging way to relieve the stress of the day is sort of dampened by the knowledge that beating an expedition or checking a daily door isn't going to actually get me anything useful in gameplay. Please consider removing them!
