Look, this game is great. It gets more difficult as you progress through the levels, which is what games do. If you want a game that isn't sometimes challenging, then play something else (but really, are there any games that don't get more challenging sometimes?).
Each section of the game introduces a new game mechanic (ice, blocks, fire, monsters, etc), which change gameplay in different, interesting ways. Some are more successful than others, but they're all interesting.
This is a free game with no ads, and you don't need to pay anything to enjoy it. A lot of reviewers seem to dislike that the app pushes things you can buy, but, c'mon, it's a free game with no ads. Why all the fuss?
Every couple of weeks they release a new level expansion, so there are constantly new challenges. Just finished the latest level pack and I'm looking forward to the next.
I've been playing for over a year now, and I think I might finally buy something inapp, just because it's great!
The usual rating
I basically have to say what everyone else has said. The lives, every 20 minutes? Cmon. And it's based on luck more than strategy, that's true too. The power ups that almost never help you on the hard levels bc they give you the kind of power up you don't need. The "smooth" placing of you guys wanting us to spend money. That's annoying. I like the recent version where you can use those two power ups during the game. But what I have been wanting is to be able to actually use a power up that isn't just a new eraser and shuffler power up. If we could be in the middle of the game and decide to use a supply crate, that would be amazing. And maybe a little more helpful. But that's what I've been wanting. I've loved this game from the start but it is ridiculously frustrating. And please let it save on Game Center. Why even have it part of Game Center if you're not even going to let it save our progress?! My phone got stolen and when I got my replacement I had to start all over again! Super frustrating!!
This game started out really fun, especially after having played the original Dots for awhile. However, as you get into the higher levels (currently at 373), it seems that the developers just want you to get frustrated and end up paying for extra lives, moves, or power ups. Out of principle, I refuse to pay for in-app purchases. When you get this far into the game, it becomes so easy to blow through all your lives in five minutes before you have to wait 100 minutes (really guys???) only to blow through them all over again. It's very frustrating to be stuck on a level for literally weeks at a time. It's even more frustrating when you earn a power up that offers little help (or sometimes even makes your board worse). If the only way to beat this level is to pay for their BS, then I guess I'll be deleting this app.
The longer I've played this game, the less excited I'm feeling about updates. If the developers would have initially offered a premium version with unlimited lives for $5 or less, I would have gladly paid. But their loss, because, like I said, I'll never pay for stupid IAPs.
