Love The Details
I have to laugh when I read complaints about the 20 minute wait time per life or about the asks for in game purchases. There is no trickery involved. Most purchases seem likely driven by human weakness or impatience. This amazing free game does not make or require you buy anything to enjoy all it has to offer - nor does it have any annoying ads. The levels can all be beat without purchasing a thing... All that is required is patience, doggedness, some strategy and maybe a spot of luck. There are some sticky levels that could take many sets of lives to get past, but that's part of the challenge. If the 20 minute per life thing didn't exist, I may have burned myself out on this game by playing too much. I think the Two Dots take on the 'in app purchase' model is perfect.
Game play and mechanics are intuitive and slick. Concept is simple and engaging. The artwork is stunning. Soundtrack is immersive and beautiful (with some killer synth programming). The whole package is cohesive and lovely. I think there was a lot of love put into all the details and it shines through.
Had to change my rating
I used to love this game, but a couple of issues are making me increasingly frustrated with it. First, any time I get a text while playing it completely screws up my move. The game remembers the line I was starting to draw, which often is not completed (because of the incoming text) and so I waste a move. ALMOST EVERY TIME I GET A TEXT. I can't count how many times a level has been completely screwed up because of this. Please make it so that the game pauses with incoming texts or calls. My second issue is having to wait 20 minutes per new life. I get wanting to slow down play, but this seems a bit excessive. I'm not sure if that's typical for games, but it feels really long. Third, the fire gives me anxiety. I know that's not something that can be fixed, but it gives me legit anxiety. I do have fun playing this, but please fix these things.
I keep hoping
I hold out hope that this essentially awesome game will one day be as enjoyable as it was 6 months or so ago. The "innovations" of each level seem increasingly loathsome. I thought the monsters were a pain - there was just a joylessness with that update that I endured hoping for something better. But the new circuits go against everything that has made the game enjoyable up until now. Anticipating the moves that would lead to the chance to form a square has been the goal for 285 levels. Literally changing the point of the game this far in is frustrating to say the least. I've been annoyed in the past because I felt the developers were so manipulative in gearing the game toward in-app purchases (which I have never once bought into). Now I'm annoyed because the circuits have turned this into a game that I'm just not interested in playing.
