U-bicycle is an urban bike-sharing platform for solving short distance community needs while delivering a better riding experience. U-bicycles are enabled with GPS, wireless technology, and self-activating locks. With the use of the mobile app, users can locate and return their bikes anywhere responsible and permitted by local law. U-bicycle aims to revolutionize mobility in cities and campuses by empowering global citizens with a greener, more efficient, and affordable mode of transportation.

How it works
- Look around or open the app and find a U-bicycle nearby.
- Unlock your U-bicycle by scanning the QR code on the bike, and start your trip.
- When you done your riding, park at any public bicycle parking spot or rack. Lock the bike to end your trip.

Please visit www.u-bicycle.com , if you have any question.

Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Great idea, terrible execution

Everything listed on the advertisements appeared almost too good to be true so my wife and I jumped at the chance to use U Bicycle for our trip to Victoria. First, the ads never mention that you don’t link your card for payment, you purchase tokens in increments of $10. You find this out after your ride when you are charged so the $1per half hour has a huge asterisk of a minimum $10 fee. If the service delivered what it initially promised though I would have been more than happy to pay that amount. It didn’t

The biggest issue in my opinion is the bikes themselves. Helmets are not included, they say they are but they are not. I’m sure that this isn’t entirely U bicycle’s fault though as they are vulnerable targets for theft. We found 4 U bikes on our quick ride and none of them had helmets, which in BC can land you a fine if caught. THE BIKES HAVE BEEN RIDDEN TO DEATH. Mine had a broken seat adjuster, handlebars that pointed the wrong direction, and an overall creaky feel. This was pretty much par for the course for all of the bikes I found, they all had a few issues you just had to pick your favorite flavor of broken to put up with.

I was initially going to rate the service a star or two higher because despite it being an overall loss it was a cheap loss. Then I went to settle my account and discovered the token bait-and-switch. There are plenty of bike rental options in BC, pick another one.

Having used a variety of bike share apps in multiple cities, I am familiar with how most work.

U-bicycle forces you to add deposits in chunks of $10 or more. For those who are interested in using it for a short time like myself, you are forced to commit before starting.

Looking to get a refund on my deposit I started a conversation with customer support which seemed helpful enough at first. They required me to fill out a form and email it back to them. This is more work than most bike share apps which are much more seamless but I did it anyways. Upon sending it to them, I have yet to receive a response or refund 2 months after. My short ride around Victoria turned into a $60 ride.

Do NOT waste your time with these people. Better to use the bike rental companies. This will save you time, money and hassle.

I read the reviews and figured, "yeah these are typical for any bike share program, so what?" And yes, my first bike had a broken seat. But the bikes didn't seem to be as problematic as the app is. It kind of ruined our day.

We were going to rent bikes for $8/hr, but I said, "I wonder if Victoria has a bike share program?" It does, and the prices are great.

But unfortunately within 40 minutes it had drained BOTH of our phones from ~90% down to 20%.

Then we made the mistake of stopping to walk around, at a fairly remote park, and when we came back to the bikes both of our phones were dead. We were stranded, started walking, and eventually caught a cab. At that point our plans for the day were shot.

In hindsight, we should have rented the $8/hr bikes.
